The Team

As the success of Coronation Street continues to grow we are currently recruiting permanent Costume Assistants to assist in the smooth running of our costume operation, delivering on screen costume continuity.

The Role

You will assist and support the Costume Supervisor and the wider team in everyday costume matters, ensuring all artists are dressed and ready prior to location/studio filming and you will ensure costumes and costume changes are prepped for the filming day and to be present on set as required.


The responsibilities for the role are:

  • Preparing costumes for characters/actors for filming.

  • Setting out every part of each costume including accessories, in the dressing rooms and other areas where costume changes are to occur.

  • Providing detailed continuity notes on the iPad including any changes during filming.

  • Standing by on set while artistes are filming to help maintain costumes and take appropriate action e.g wet weather cover, emergency repairs.

  • Responsible for the general care of costumes and accessories, including washing, cleaning and pressing.

  • Assisting with costume fittings.

  • Breaking down costumes.

  • Responsible for the general turnaround of the department including washing and ironing & tidying of the work space.

  • Maintaining the dressing rooms.

  • Ensuring a positive working atmosphere and cooperation with all departments and teams.

  • Being responsive to the needs of the production.

  • Ensuring all activities are undertaken and conducted in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and guidelines.

  • Undertaking any additional tasks as may reasonably be required


Skills you'll need (Minimum Criteria)

  • Minimum 12 Months experience working in the costume department on Film, TV Drama and/or Continuing Drama.

  • Professional qualification demonstrating creative ability ie Costume Design/Textiles/Art and Fashion.

  • It is an essential part of this role that you are familiar with call sheets, costume plots, continuity and schedules.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of set etiquette.

  • Ability to sew and carry out minor alterations to costume.

  • Knowledge of how to care for and clean fabrics & clothing.

  • Keen attention to detail to ensure continuity.

  • Willingness to train and share skills and knowledge with less experienced members of the department.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, remaining focused for long periods of time.

  • Computer skills including Gmail, Google Drive, Mac, iPad & PDF Expert.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to communicate with multiple departments.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to be at ease with making on the spot decisions.
