Job description
As a Coroners Assistant you will provide administrative support to the HM Senior Coroner for Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, assisting to ensure the provision of a high-quality service to bereaved families.
If you have experience of working within an emotionally challenging environment, a proven track record of commitment to high levels of customer service and experience of working within a busy office environment using multiple IT systems for varying purposes, this could be an ideal role for you.
In this role you will provide full administrative support to the HM Senior Coroner. You will contribute to the smooth running of the Coroner’s Office and compliance with the appropriate statutory requirements; ensuring that a professional high level of customer service is provided to both bereaved families and other interested parties. You will support Coroner Officers to build cases to aid the HM Coroners’ decision making
You will be the first point of contact for bereaved families, professional witnesses, outside agencies and jurors when they contact / attend the office and courts. Therefore, you must be able to remain professional, sensitive and responsive to their needs. You must be able to assess situations which are not straightforward and exercise assertiveness, discretion, and judgement as appropriate dealing sympathetically with customers in emotionally challenging situations.
You may be required to attend inquest hearings and pre inquest reviews ensuring that accurate and appropriate records are kept, producing a wide range of written material. Excellent communication and advocacy are essential in this role, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
When attending an inquest, you may be required to present information, for example reading witness statements out loud in court. Therefore, an ability to speak confidently in public is essential. Medical statements may involve the pronunciation of complex medical terminology.
