Position Summary: Copyedit all English-language (printed and electronic) publications of Unity to help ensure that they are free of grammatical, spelling, and basic factual errors while proofing typeset versions of copyedited text.
Essential Job Functions:
- Copyedit all types of English-language Unity publications, both printed and electronic, including magazines, books, booklets, direct mail packages, educational/curriculum material, newsletters, leaflets, pamphlets, brochures, advertisements, letters, fliers, prayer services, event programs, order forms, marketing/promotional packages, web copy, and more.
- Proofread typeset versions of copyedited text.
- Communicate with other Unity staff to resolve questions of language, scheduling, copyediting, and proofreading.
- Monitor brand usage in all materials.
- Regular and reliable attendance at the worksite and adhere to assigned schedule. Remote or telecommute position may be possible.
- Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures per the guidebook including all safety requirements including all safety guidelines
Nonessential Job Functions:
- Write copy as dictated by staffing needs.
- Assist in training proofreaders as necessary and maintaining Unity Editorial Stylebook.
- Maintain knowledge of current Unity editorial style, strategy, and outside editorial trends.

Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
Experience:
- Five years’ experience in copy editing, proofing and/or copywriting.
- Proficiency in written English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling as well as the ability to recognize meaning.
- Knowledge of editing process and standard copyediting and proofreading marks.
- Excellent organizational skills required, including the ability to set priorities of multiple jobs. Deadline-oriented skills while maintaining accuracy and details.
- Solid verbal and written communication, telephone, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with The Gregg Reference and AP Stylebook manuals helpful. Knowledge of Unity philosophy and terminology preferred.
Computer Skills:
- Intermediate end-user of MS Office: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook. Adobe Acrobat Pro experience a plus. InDesign may sometimes be used.
