Elsie Inglis Nursing Home
Full Time Edinburgh, Scotland 11.7 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

We are seeking talented and caring individuals looking to begin or continue their career in Social Care with us, making a difference to the lives of our residents at Peacock Medicare Ltd. Peacock Medicare Ltd have been providing high quality care to older people for over 30 years in West Lothian and opening Elsie Inglis Nursing Home in Edinburgh this summer.

About Elsie Care Home

Elsie Inglis is set within the original Elsie Inglis Memorial Maternity Hospital (EIMHH), from which it now takes its name. The home is situated on the very edge of Holyrood Park, with panoramic views of Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags with private access to the many paths and features of the Royal Park.

The home is a completely new, fully refurbished entity, providing 49 premium rooms with full shower en-suites and includes everything associated with a modern, fully compliant care home.

Current Opportunities

We have an excellent opportunity for experienced Cook to join our team. We have a vacancy for a bank cook as well as a part time cook with shift times as follows:

Shift times: 0800hrs– 1830hrs

The part time cook will work 4 days a week, totaling 36 hours weekly.

Main roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head Chef, you’ll be responsible for preparing appetising meals for our care home residents. You will need to be hard-working and reliable. It’s also crucial that you understand the challenges of catering for older, vulnerable people – some of whom may have poor appetites. You’ll work closely with your care team colleagues to address individual needs. We’ll also expect you to support and inspire your assistants in the kitchen, help your Head Chef with menu planning and maintain excellent food hygiene standards. This is a demanding role for a cook. But you will have lots of support and quality training to make a success of it.

Requirements

You are a capable, experienced cook with a cooking qualification. In addition, you are a caring person who knows the vital role mealtimes play in the lives of frail, older people. Ideally, you’ve already got some experience catering for older people in a care home or similar setting. You’re well organised and a good team player. You’re happy working closely with colleagues to make sure individual dietary needs are met. You want to be a valued member of a friendly, close-knit team – keen to progress in your career as a chef and do your bit to improve the nutrition of older people.
