We are based in the vibrant city of Liverpool with a world class R&D and manufacturing facility that offers a complete end to end development service. Our 80,000 sq. ft facility houses an established Biologics Department that consists of Manufacturing and Analytical services. Our Liverpool site has a remarkable 20 Year Track Record in Biologics Development, we offer a fully Integrated Gene Therapy Drug Substance Solution in our state of the art cGMP facility purpose designed for viral vectors with onsite plasmid DNA and renowned analytical capabilities for release and characterisation.
The Pharmaron Liverpool Team is looking to expand and recruit a Controls & Instrumentation and IT Engineer to support the client side project team to execute major capital projects, including phase 1 of the Site Expansion plan, from detailed design, through to construction supervision, snagging/commissioning and approval of turnover packages. This role will then transition within the Engineering team to become Principal C&I Engineer for the site.

Key roles and responsibilities:
- Subject matter expert in the specification, design, installation and testing of automated building services equipment, BMS/SCADA and data historian technologies, IT infrastructure and platforms
- Subject matter input at design review workshops, plus review & commentary on all specifications, drawings and design documents generated by the Architectural & Engineering (A&E) firm or Construction Management (CM) team and their subcontractors
- Respond accurately, succinctly and in a timely fashion, to technical queries and requests for information from the A&E firm and/or CM team and their subcontractors
- Accurately and within stipulated time limits, source & manage the flow of information required by the A&E firm and/or CM team, surrounding existing site conditions, equipment specifications and standards to ensure the delivered project satisfies the site’s needs and is safe to operate/maintain
- Carry out financial and technical appraisals of project changes and options
- Perform feasibility studies, site surveys and liaison between the Client project team, site personnel and the A&E firm
- Early identification of issues and/or concerns that either have the potential or will impact the project baseline and/or cost plan
- Establish and deliver robust and cost effective automation and IT strategies for the site, that underpin our ability to respond quickly and efficiently to customer and business needs
- Develop maintenance based SOP’s and maintenance plans/schedules plus training packages
- Deliver allocated roles and tasks in a safe manner to the specified functional criteria, goals and objectives, compliant with appropriate legislation.
- Review of contractors’ risk assessments and method statements.
- Must recognise the importance of site safety and zero harm.
Qualification
- Instrument or Electrical Engineering Qualifications (min. national certificate). In relevant subjects such as:
- computer-aided engineering or computer engineering
- electrical engineering
- electronics
Requirements:
Essential:
- Time served engineer control /instrument/electrical supplemented by appropriate and proven project/design experience.
- development of designs and specifications for control, instrumentation and IT systems/platforms and have the ability to critically review and comment on P&ID’s, installation details and test procedures.
- IT and network systems hardware and software design/specification, installation and testing.
- Instrument and process control equipment installation, maintenance, calibration and fault finding/diagnosis, for DCS, PLC and SCADA systems
- Delivering large facility/infrastructure installations/upgrades and representing the client within integrated client/A&E firm/CM teams.
- Instrument Calibration and maintenance practices
- Creative problem-solving/critical thinking skills and troubleshooting
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- An understanding of IT Infrastructure and ability to work with, high-level computer technology.
- Flexibility and an ability to compromise
- A willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions
- A high level of attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience in GMP and clean room facilities
- Demonstrated experience within a cGMP biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical environment and/or working within MHRA/FDA guidelines
- In-depth knowledge on latest IEE Wiring Regulations and their application in industry
- Good commercial awareness
