We’re growing 5x year on year, and have no plans to slow down until flight-free travel is mainstream.
We’re looking for a creative, flexible and detail-oriented Financial Controller with a drive to take ownership of the finances of our scaling startup as our first full (or nearly full!) time finance hire. In this role, you’ll play a key part in our financial strategy, leading our budgeting and forecasting processes, developing internal controls and tooling, and managing all financial operations within the company. We're open to hiring you full time or four days per week according to your preferences, and offer remote-first, flexible working.
You’ll report directly to the CEO, supervise the supplier reconciliation and payment work of our two support team members, and collaborate across all departments, providing financial insights that drive our company's growth.
Your key responsibilities
- Leading and managing the company’s budgeting and forecasting processes
- Developing and enforcing internal control policies to ensure financial integrity
- Preparing financial reports and presenting findings and recommendations to the management team
- Collaborating with all departments, providing them with financial analysis and guidance
- Managing all financial operations within the company, including treasury, tax, and financial planning
- Ensuring compliance with statutory law and financial regulations
- Coordinating auditing processes and liaising with external auditors
What we’re looking for
- A qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- Experience managing a finance function in a fast-growth SME environment including modelling, forecasting and budgeting
- Comfort with the nuts and bolts of financial management: transactional processing, accounting, tax, reporting, planning and analysis
- Knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes
- Proficiency in accounting software including Xero
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and management skills
What would be great (but isn’t required)
- Experience building a finance function and systems from scratch
- Knowledge of the travel industry
- Airtable expertise

The process
If we like your application, we'll set up a 15 minute call for you and Claire, our Interim Head of Finance, to meet each other. After that, there's a short take-home scenario then a technical interview with founder/CEO Cat, Claire, and a member of the support team you'll be supervising. The third and final interview is focused on us getting to know you, and you getting to know Byway. It will be with Cat and Rich (CTO) or Holly (CMO). If that's great, we move to job offer and references!
