About the role

Due to continued growth, we’re recruiting for a Contracts Engineer to join the team reporting to the Senior Cost Engineer, this role sits within our Gas and Liquids advisory business line which is part of our Energy Unit and will be responsible primarily for providing cost estimating service to projects.

Key activities will include:

  • Review of contracts
  • Developing contract strategies
  • Preparation of tendering packages
  • Tender evaluation and negotiation
  • Interfacing with clients
  • Monitoring contracts, variation and disputes
  • Support preparation of cost estimates
  • Leading cost interface with clients and internal workstreams
  • Managing risk and mitigations
  • Preparation of reports and deliverables
  • Providing input including in-depth research, analysis, evaluations and assessments, preparation of studies
  • Involvement in proposals and supporting submissions for new opportunities
  • Collaboration with colleagues across the wider Mott MacDonald Group and with third parties

Candidate Specification

The successful applicant will be:

  • Relevant qualification technical or commercial subject (or equivalent)
  • Commercially minded with proven skills and experience of contract services, different contract forms within the energy sector
  • Possibly with an Owners Engineer background
  • Understanding of different project phases and previous site experience
  • Preferably relevant past experience in the oil, gas and petroleum industry with demonstrable interest in energy and gas transition driving decarbonisation
  • Demonstrated capability in one or more of the following technologies would be an advantage:
    • Gas related technologies (FSRU, LNG, LPG, CNG, Hydrogen) and infrastructure (onshore/offshore)
    • Gas transportation and storage systems and distribution
    • Liquids product storage terminals,
    • Sustainable fuels
    • Hydrogen
  • Self-motivated and diligent, with an ability to work alone and with others to tight deadlines, on simultaneous assignments
  • Attentive to detail, an active listener, with a strong aptitude for the wider picture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication (English)
  • Prepared to travel, sometimes at short notice, as required by projects and/or new business opportunities
It will also be beneficial for the applicant to have an understanding of project agreements, contract and commercial terms, such as:-
  • Consultancy agreements
  • Owners engineering services
  • EPC Contracts for onshore / offshore facilities
  • O&M / Service Contracts for built facilities
  • Supply / Purchase Agreements for procurement of Major Systems / Plant & Equipment
