Purpose of Role:
This role sits within Edinburgh Business School and is critical to reputation raising for EBS in support of achieving global accreditation and ranking, as well as enhanced research profile and broader engagement activities to profile the School and support its strategic objectives. The post holder will lead on the generation of research and engagement content to showcase research and engagement outputs and promote the School's provision of post-experience education, business-facing training and development provision, and broader business engagement activity, in the UK and across the regions where the School operates. The post holder will work closely with academic colleagues and professional services teams to coordinate and develop research and engagement content in line with School and University priorities. Working directly with the Executive Dean of EBS & SoSS the direction and priorities for the post holder are set by the EBS leadership team, the post holder is part of the HWU Marketing team and is formally line managed by the University's Global Marketing Director.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a multi-faceted role that requires creativity, marketing and communications expertise and excellent stakeholder management skills. The duties and responsibilities listed below are not exhaustive and at key points in the year, the post holder will be expected to support School wide activities (for example graduation) as required.
Marketing, Communications and Campaign Support
- Develop, manage and deliver marketing and communications campaigns to raise the profile of research outputs and engagement activities
- Build out and populate a robust annual marketing and communications plan to maximise marketing, PR, profile and reputation building opportunities for the School, tracking and reporting regularly against the plan and KPIs
- Work closely with academic colleagues to identify and capture the uniqueness of their work and articulate this for different audiences to raise awareness and profile, particularly in relation to research and engagement impact
- Write and develop press stories, online content, case studies, thought leadership pieces and other relevant material to support profile raising activity
- Work closely with other professional services and external organisations to ensure a regular, positive flow of information about the School that can be proactively used across channels internally and externally to raise profile.
- Securing regular media opportunities for academic staff to profile their work in business and professional media outlets.
- Support the authoring of research submissions and associated environment statements in relation to REF and provide support for accreditation/awards submissions as required
- Lead on marketing campaigns and activity to support executive programmes and business engagement initiatives, liaising with colleagues within the School and in other professional services such as Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Communications to support lead generation, conversion and recruitment activit
- Provide regular updates and performance metrics and utilise data to improve broader marketing and communications activities, including student focused marketing campaigns
Social and Digital Media
- Initiate and manage a podcast series to widen and deepen public awareness of research and engagement in the School
- Create and develop creative, SEO friendly social media content for multiple channels that meets audience needs, supports lead generation and raises the profile of the School including social media post, video/imagery, long form content, blogs etc
- Support the development of user-generated content in supporting the profile raising of individual academics as field leading experts and the School as a hub of practice relevant academic expertise
- Create rich media content to support campaigns as required, including fundraising and corporate engagement campaigns.
- Update web pages as required, optimising content for search and ensuring accessibility and currency across both online and printed content with a focus on user-experience and meeting audience needs
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
- 3+ years work experience in marketing and communications with demonstrable experience of content creation/rich media production
- Technically literate with a solid grasp of SEO, Google Analytics and
- Experience of working with multiple stakeholders
- Experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications campaigns
- Experience in working and liaising daily with QA and Web Developers
- Good understanding of the delivery lifecycle with the ability to identify and manage issues.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in working with multiple high-level stakeholders
- High level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise major developments and to function effectively in a pressured environment
- Attention to detail and time management skills are crucial for the role
- Demonstrable professional and proactive approach
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Real can do/hands on attitude
Desirable
- Higher education sector experience
- Relevant PR and/or marketing qualification
