Job description

About The Role

We’re looking for a Content Designer to lead content design work for our clients across mostly digital but also non-digital products and services. This role reports into the Head of User Experience and Research Studio. As we are building out our content team, there is a large potential for growth.

You’ll work in multidisciplinary teams to design how people find, understand, access and use products and services – making sure content is engaging, accessible, easy to understand and in the most appropriate format. You may also work with clients to help them develop a clear approach to producing, managing and maintaining content.

You’ll be part of a growing content design and strategy Community of Practice at TPXimpact, and will help define how we deliver great content design work at TPXimpact.

This role probably isn’t for you if you’re a visual/graphic designer. We’re happy to consider people with transferable skills, but it’s important you have a strong understanding of content design and UCD principles.

What you’ll be doing

No two projects are exactly the same at TPXimpact, but you’ll spend most of your time:

  • Working with strategists, UX designers and user researchers to design content for products and services – from high-level flows and journeys, to specific interface details.
  • Combine strategy and creativity in content modelling, Object Oriented UX, and structured content approaches.
  • Create taxonomies and Information Architecture to provide structure.
  • Creating and editing content in line with style guides and using plain English.
  • Writing clear and accessible technical documentation and guides/reports, applying best practice, content standards and approaches.
  • Working with analytics, data and research insights to support content design decisions.
  • Working with client teams to help them understand content design best practice.
  • Upskill client teams, your colleagues in the studio and the wider TPXimpact design community through training, pair writing and workshops.
  • Supporting user research, working with other design specialists to test content, information architecture, and prototypes.
  • Applying a user-centred approach to designing and managing content requirements as part of agile ways of working and delivery.
  • Help build and contribute to a content design and strategy team at TPXimpact Digital Experience, and make sure good content design principles are embedded throughout all the work we do.

About You

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience of delivering high-quality content design work for online and offline journeys, as part of a wider service.
  • Understanding of how content can work alongside user centred design and user testing.
  • Experience with content modelling, Object Oriented UX, and structured content approaches.
  • Experience with creating taxonomies and Information Architecture.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to present and explain ways of working to take clients on the journey (potentially running workshops).
  • Experience of producing content as part of a multidisciplinary agile team of UX, User Research, Product owner, PM, Developers.
  • The ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, balancing internal business priorities with external delivery and work on client projects.
  • To be willing to travel in the UK to work with our clients for the purposes of meetings and workshops (subject to Covid restrictions).
  • We’ll understand if you're exceptional in some areas, but you're not as strong in others.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience with developing content strategy and/or advising on content governance and teams
  • Experience working in complex systems, such as Government departments or the NHS
