Job description
This is an exciting time to be joining the V&A, as we grow and extend our digital product portfolio and online engagement to support the opening of V&A East (a new Museum and Storehouse) in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in 2024/5, and the new Young V&A in Bethnal Green this summer. As part of that expansion, we are changing the way the V&A operates, to become a more inclusive, creative, open and collaborative family of museums through our Redesigning the V&A programme.
The Digital Media team leads the design and development of a suite of visitor-facing digital products and services. Our award-winning collections website was recently re-launched, and we have a rolling programme of improvements and an ambitious roadmap. This includes further development of the collection’s website and a significant expansion to the V&A digital estate to support the services offered across the growing multisite V&A family.
We are looking for a Content Designer to join the team and to lead the creation of new content that supports recommendations of projects from the Redesign programme, helping people to discover how to see objects up close at V&A East and at South Kensington, to help people plan and prepare for their visit to our museums, and to help recruit and attract new volunteers to support our mission.
Main Job Purpose
The Content Designer makes designs and creates information about the V&A’s products and services, always putting the user’s need at the heart of that content and ensuring intuitive journeys across the V&A’s digital estate to reflect and inform users of the expanding offer of products, services, and experiences across the V&A family of venues.
This role makes things easier for people to understand and use – making sure that the right content is shown at the right place and in the right format for our online users. That might be creating one piece of content right through to the content design and creation for end-to-end services.
This role has a particular focus on the content requirements and recommendations emerging from the following projects within the Redesign programme:
- Order an Object – the online service and associated features on Explore the Collections to support discovery and booking of objects to see in person at South Kensington and the V&A East Storehouse
- Volunteering – shaping the V&A’s volunteering offer as a dynamic, mutually beneficial proposition to attract new types of volunteers to work with us across the V&A family of venues
- Contact Centre – refining ways we present visitor information online and to reduce calls and emails to our contact centre
- Welcome – shaping our visit information to help visitors with a range of different needs to prepare for and to get the most out of their visit
