About the role
An exciting opportunity to join our Marketing Team at Alton Towers Resort, one of the UK’s most exciting brands!
As the brand, and wider Merlin Entertainments, look to rocket fuel its digital presence and output, you will play a critical role in helping achieve this. Through the creation of compelling content for our social channels that bring our stories to life, you will help us reach a wider audience that we don’t currently get to and support our online growth.
You will be responsible for creating finger-on-the pulse content to be pushed out across our social media platforms. We know that an editorial-led role that leans into the news agenda is reliant on the what’s happening in the world around us, so you’ll also proactively get to use your social media and content skills to work other teams in our department – from producing video content to support our campaigns, to helping showcase our Resort’s amazing breadth of offer with social-first content plans! This brand-new role will drive forward our channels in new directions.
You will look to continually utilise content with an editorial focus to improve brand visibility, so content creation should be your forte and a nose for news is essential! Being passionate about social media trends is a must, coupled with a sound understanding of how content needs to be adapted for each channel. You must be able to use data and analytics tools to demonstrate your success.
In addition, this role will see you work alongside a network of social media experts at attractions across the Merlin Entertainment portfolio with support from Merlin’s Head of Social Media.
What you’ll do
- Work as part of our PR and Social Media team, within the wider Marketing Team, to identify and develop content that helps further promote our brand in-line with our brand tone
- Devise, capture and create high-quality editorial-led content for our social media channels, as well as additional content to be used by our third-parties to support our online presence
- Stay on top of latest trends and conversations across social media assessing the role our brand can utilise to create compelling content and executing these ideas at speed.
- Work with our agencies to devise and deliver social-first content, setting up reviews and action plans in order to achieve agreed KPIs across on multiple social media platforms to help build our social audience and engagement
- Ensure Alton Towers Resort remains relevant in the present and for future generations across out digital platforms
- Coordinate content shoots across different teams including Marketing, Studios, Operations and Health & Safety, ensuring all necessary paperwork and documents are submitted.
- Foster relationships with content creators and seek out collaborative opportunities for the brand
- Support and work closely with the PR Manager to identify newsjacking opportunities we can utilise to generate editorial-led content for our social channels
- Support the wider team with delivering high-quality content that is channel and audience relevant
- Be up-to-date on social media trends and understand how the content needs to be adapted for each, as well as act on market trends, user behaviour, new platform features, competitor activity and other relevant updates to ensure we maintain a competitive edge
- Create regular performance reports and analysis to help inform the Resort’s future social media strategy
The ideal candidate:
- Possess excellent editorial judgement with a passion for story-telling and proven experience developing engaging social-first content, with examples to back it up.
- You’ll be a creative, organised editor with a gift for crafting engaging and effective social content and campaigns – adept at using a variety of software packages and analytics tools (such as Cision/Brandwatch, Adobe Creative Suite and Google Analytics)
- You’ll be passionate about news with an understanding of the media landscape and have a strong familiarity of social media content and trends
- Be confident capturing and creating high-quality content, possessing excellent editorial judgement, accuracy and sensitivity with an understanding of what it means to be a social first editon
- Be agile to change, a collaborative team player, comfortable working in a high pressure, fast paced environment where identifying needs, providing solutions and adding value is a prerequisite
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
