Job description
About the role
Content is at the heart of BrightLocal's marketing. We have a long history of creating guides, news, webinars and research pieces that are respected across the local search industry.
BrightLocal’s Marketing team has years of experience telling stories and engaging audiences across a variety of channels. With this new role, we’re expanding the team to bring in a quick learner and confident writer who's looking to take their first steps into marketing.
As BrightLocal’s new Content and Marketing Executive, reporting into the Senior Content Marketing Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to continue your development in a supportive environment while learning from an experienced team. We want you to turn your writing abilities to BrightLocal’s Insights section while developing your wider digital marketing and SEO skills.
You’ll have a proactive approach to problem-solving and be willing to work independently across a range of tasks in the marketing team, whether that’s helping out with ongoing content, our authoritative research, our interactive BrightLocal Acadamy, or our super-popular webinars.
We're also introducing a wide array of new brand-building exercises this year, from videos and podcasts to events and conferences, so there are very few areas of marketing you won't learn about and develop your skills in!
This is a hybrid working role. Most of our team are currently working two days in the office and three days from home. However, we are flexible based on each individual's choice.
Salary: £23,000-£25,000 DOE
About BrightLocal
BrightLocal is a SaaS platform that helps digital marketing agencies and brands with local online marketing.
We have over 5,000 customers and work with big brands such as Co-op, Fitness First and IKEA. These companies depend on Brightlocal to help them improve their local online performance to deliver greater traffic and new customers.
Launched in 2009, we have an established and respected brand in the industry and are known for our authoritative research and webinars as much as our specialist search-reporting platform. Our industry-leading research is regularly picked up by mainstream media like the Guardian, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
We employ 250 people across 5 countries: UK, USA, Ukraine, Poland, and the Philippines. Brighton is our HQ, and our global management and operational hub.
We are a people-focused business and fully committed to giving every team member the most positive work experience possible, as demonstrated by our Breathe Culture Leader award. We do this by providing an abundance of opportunities to learn new skills, building fantastic working relationships, and supporting team members in realising their life goals, all within a culture that cherishes individuality and champions teamwork and collaboration.
We also like to have fun, with regular team-building activities, including things like escape rooms, cocktail making, sailing, scavenger hunts, and plenty of team meals and social nights out.

Holidays:
We offer 25 days annual holiday (plus bank holidays) and you get a day off for your birthday, too.
Working Environment:
The office is informal and casual. We expect people to work hard but also to enjoy their time at work. We have a fully-stocked drinks fridge and our kitchen cupboards overflow with snacks, of both the healthy and (very) unhealthy kind.
We have been fortunate to be able to grow our business, and our teams, throughout the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, and have proved that we are amazingly committed when working from home. So when we reopen our Brighton office in July (see further details below) we will operate hot desks and flexible working from home for every team member. We'll be happy to explain in more detail if you have any questions.
We love to celebrate all team members’ birthdays, and enjoy cakes, drinks and cards (as long as that's what they want!), and we also make a big deal of important work anniversaries with presents and gift cards.
The music in the office is always on, and we take time out every few weeks to do fun team activities. Where we can, and when people are in the office, we try to break early on a Friday afternoon to ‘prepare for the weekend’ with snacks and drinks (beer, wine, G&Ts and soft drinks - take your pick!). This is more tricky for those working from home on a Friday but other lunches and events more than make up for this!

Working Abroad:
We encourage work-life balance by enabling our employees to work abroad for up to three weeks a year – be it France, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Bali or beyond… the world is there to be explored and we want to help you explore it.
Company Bonus:
Every team member enters into our company bonus scheme related to targets.
Health & Wellbeing Support:
We are firm believers in supporting our team members in body and mind. We provide a diverse range of health and wellbeing benefits, including Vitality Private healthcare (which includes dental cover, CBT support and free access to other complementary therapies), free flu jabs and eyecare vouchers, weekly in-office massages and a comprehensive bike-to-work scheme, which you don’t just have to use just for work!
Covid-19 Update:
Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic our team worked remotely to help keep them safe and avoid further spreading of the virus. We reopened our office in central Brighton in July 2021 and have been hybrid working since then. Each team has a “team day” when they come into the office and most people do 2-3 days per week in the office but this is very flexible.
We feel incredibly fortunate that BrightLocal has remained stable and profitable throughout the pandemic and we remain on track to hit our revenue and growth goals for 2022. We have been able to support any struggling customers with long-term payment holidays and through additional training and support.
We have had zero redundancies and have grown many of the teams across the business to ensure that we are in a strong position to help and support our growing customer base in 2022 and beyond.
What you’ll bring to the role:
You'll be keen to work in a supportive, inspiring and friendly environment with the right level of challenge
You'll be a quick learner that’s hungry to pick up new skills across digital marketing and develop your local SEO knowledge

You'll have the ability to apply yourself to a wide variety of tasks and manage your time well to achieve these on time

You'll have a keen interest in SEO and digital marketing, and look to grow your expertise in this area over time
You'll have a top-level understanding of each major social media platform BrightLocal operates on
You'll have a can-do attitude that you can apply to everything from diving into a research spreadsheet to clean up data to supporting our exciting live broadcasts and webinars
You'll have an eagle eye for detail, especially when it comes to testing out our Acadamy video content or proofing our in-depth guides
