North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) provides NHS mental health services for the residents of the London Boroughs of Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham and Havering.
This post has become available following the departure of the previous post holder and the reconfiguration of medical input to the Older Adult Mental Health Team & Memory Service to align to Primary Care Networks / Localities. The successful candidate will be one of 2.9 FTE consultants in Old Age Psychiatry for Barking & Dagenham and will cover the North locality. Clinical support will be in the form of 0.8 FTE SASG doctor sessions with ring fenced time for admin.
NELFT is entering a new phase in its service delivery, with several transformation project taking place. We have strong Medical Leadership in NELFT, and we are keen for the clinical voice and the patient voice to guide our service delivery decisions and developments. The post holder will provide consultant leadership to the team and contribute to ongoing service development. The clinical aspects of the role will be in the field of Old Age Psychiatry for assessment and follow-up, including both functional and organic mental disorder. The candidate will conduct general outpatient clinics in Old Age Psychiatry, Memory Clinics and home visits.

This post consists of 10 Programmed Activities, of which 7.5 will be Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities. The post holder will contribute to the general adult and old age senior on-call rota (1:53) which is remunerated at 3%. On call is supported by 3-4 junior trainees (one extra trainee between 5PM and 9PM), 1 senior trainee/SpR, a 24-hour crisis team and 24-hour hub at King George Hospital. The post holder will also contribute to a weekday daytime rota covering the S136 unit at Sunflowers Court (Goodmayes Hospital site) - approximately 4-5 duty days per year.
There is a dedicated office at the Broad Street Centre in Dagenham, and IT equipment (laptop and mobile phone) is provided. Medical Secretary support is also based at the Broad Street Centre.
