This post in Acute Medicine is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital, Rhyl, North wales. Presently there are 4 acute physicians with plans to appoint more. The appointee will also undertake sessions in the sub-speciality area of their choice. This could include: Elderly Care, Stroke, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine, or Diabetes & Endocrinology.
As part of the Health Board’s strategic collaboration with Bangor University, individuals with an interest in teaching and research who can demonstrate and agree a possible contribution to the School can be considered and nominated for recognition through the University’s process for granting honorary titles and help to deliver our shared vision for the North Wales School of Medicine and Health.
The post holder would be encouraged to develop clinical or academic specialist interests. Part time working or a job share would also be considered. There is a dedicated team supporting the consultants on AMU, currently consisting of 1 SpR, 1 CT Trainee, I FY2, 1 FY1. There is also support from 3 ANPs attached to the team and Welsh Government has recently invested further funding to develop our model of care including multi disciplinary teams.
The posts arise as we look to strengthen and consolidate our existing consultant base, and grow our workforce to meet the future healthcare challenges of our local population. Following a comprehensive review we have increased funding to strengthen staffing at all tiers, building upon our stable base. We’re looking for high calibre candidates who can help us take our service to the next level.
Glan Clwyd Hospital is located in an area of recognised natural beauty with Snowdonia, stunning pristine beaches and enchanting castles all nearby. The local area offers a wide variety of lifestyle and family options, and for those keen to maintain ties further afield, the area has excellent transport links including fast direct trains to London. The cities of Chester, Manchester, and Liverpool are within easy reach and offer international travel connections.
With approximately 58,000 attendances to ED each year and 16,000 patients going through our assessment units we have a diverse workload to keep you interested and challenged. You will still have time to talk to your patients properly, and within a specialty of interest. We are supported by the full range of district hospital specialities, and we’re also fortunate to have an extended range of sub-regional services on site including a Primary PCI service, vascular surgery, maxillofacial surgery haematology and cancer services.
