We are looking to appoint a full-time Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a specialist interest in Gynaecological Cancer, including diagnostic and treatment activities (2week-wait clinics, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, surgery).
If successful you will contribute to the leadership of the Gynaecology Oncology service, with attendance at relevant MDTs and the MSE steering group. Working across the MSE to deliver service change and quality improvement.
You will be expected to cover labour ward on a rotational basis along with antenatal and ambulatory gynaecology clinics, elective and emergency theatres. You'll also be actively involved in the clinical governance aspects of the directorate and the trust, including risk management and CNST.

- Provide a consultant-led service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G)
- Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy and acute gynaecology.
- Provide training for trainees in the specialty of O&G
- Evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the O&G service.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to undertake a senior role in the general provision of Obstetric and Gynaecological Services at Basildon Hospital and MSE.
- Provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties.
- To provide gynaecological oncological services in outpatients, theatre and emergency care.
- Facilitate the triage of emergency gynaecology operations as per NCEPOD recommendations to avoid operating out-of-hours (i.e., 17h00 to 08h00) whenever feasible. Consultant in Obstetrics and attend all theatre cases to perform surgery, unless satisfied a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.
- Assessment and delivery of immediate medical attention of deteriorating elective post-op gynaecology patients.
- Obstetric on call commitments as part of the departmental on call rota (1 in 14).
- Support obstetric colleagues with advice/ surgical assistance
- Support the Emergency Surgical Consultant with consultant gynaecological opinion/ ultrasound.
