Job description
This exciting post is for a full time Consultant in Medical Microbiology. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant in Medical Microbiology or Medical Microbiology/ Infectious Diseases to join the team at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultants in order to provide a complete clinical microbiology (including virology), antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control service. The successful individual will join the Microbiology Department to create a team of 4 consultants ( 2 part-time, 2 full time) and a Speciality Doctor. If the successful candidate has the relevant skills and experience, he/she will be offered an opportunity to lead on antimicrobial stewardships. He/she will participate in a 1:6 on call rota covering all aspects of microbiology including virology and infection prevention and control. The successful appointee will be encouraged to develop a specialist interest.
The Department is strongly linked with the South West London Pathology network which runs a spoke and hub laboratory model with a spoke laboratory at Croydon University Hospital and the hub laboratory based at St George’s Hospital, Tooting. The Croydon Health Services NHS Trust consultant Microbiologists actively contribute to the running and governance of the whole network together with colleagues from the two other Trusts involved in the network.

It is essential that you have completed higher specialist training in Microbiology and be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of award of CCT or equivalent by the date of interview. Applicants with dual training in Microbiology and Infectious disease are also welcome
