Job description
We are currently in an exciting period of expansion and development for Child Health services in East Kent Hospitals. Our most recent CQC inspection rated us GOOD for SAFE and WELL-LED and we are striving to achieve excellence with our consultant workforce increasing to ensure outstanding care for the local population and meet the RCPCH Facing the Future recommendations. Workforce expansion is being matched by improved infrastructure on Padua ward, and a new children’s assessment unit next to the children’s emergency department.
We aim for every consultant to excel in both clinical and non-clinical endeavours, including clinical leadership, research, teaching and other allied areas, supported by innovative development programs provided within the trust.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
We’re on an exciting journey of transformation. With a new Medical School at the centre of our community, a focus on research, clinical leadership and making our trust a rewarding and friendly place to work, there’s never been a better time to join us.
Appointees will be responsible for care of children admitted to the general paediatric ward (Padua Ward) and for children referred to paediatrics by the paediatric emergency department, or being assessed on the children’s assessment unit (CAU).
Padua Ward is a general paediatric ward with 28 beds, including 2 HDU beds. The CAU is currently part of the ward, but this will be relocated to the emergency village once the current expansion is complete (expected completion September 2023), creating a new and improved CAU space and also releasing additional space to expand our paediatric outpatients department.
Ward cover is delivered in a Consultant of the Week (CoW) model. Once our recruitment is complete the CoW rota will be 1:14. The non-resident on call rota will also be 1:14.
