The Role

Where you fit in

To be part of a dynamic Geomatics team in London, providing a wide range of Geospatial expertise across the various business lines in Shell. Working on exciting projects from Renewable Energies, decarbonisation, downstream and upstream major projects.

As a Geospatial Consultant, you’ll be part of a team of approx. 10 professionals providing Geospatial expertise and consultancy to global assets and project teams.

This team is part of a wider Global Geomatics community (approx. 200 experts) providing a range of Delivery Themes to the business including Situational Awareness, Geospatial Data Integration, Site Characterisation, Asset Integrity Survey, Well and Engineering Delivery and Emergency Preparedness and Response.

What’s the role?

The role involves providing Geospatial expertise enabling Shell's Global Exploration, Portfolio & New Business, Development, New Energies, Retail and Shipping & Maritime businesses. You’ll also play role in Functional Improvement projects for the Global Geomatics community.

Key focus is maintaining Geospatial data integrity in a project, providing highly reliable business-critical Geospatial services to the team and ultimately extracting maximum value and insights from our data and expertise.

Key accountabilities:

  • Derive key insights from our Geospatial data to influence asset and project plans - identifying key risks and opportunities
  • Provide Geospatial expert advice and guidance to project teams by leading and providing Geospatial project execution support, where highly complex or unique situations make it necessary
  • Provide high quality mapping expertise
  • Proactive implementer of our Shell Group and Industry standards and promotes such standards within complex multi-disciplinary projects
  • Identify, develop & implement novel GIS applications and services that add value to the business
  • Maintain close links and collaboration with colleagues across project teams and strategic technical partnerships (e.g., Shell IT) for ongoing maturation of the Geospatial Technology platforms

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) / Master’s degree (MSc) with relevant experience within directly related Geospatial Science or related Geoscience technical discipline
  • Skilled in Geodesy and experienced in managing geodetic integrity of geospatial data
  • Proven experience in Geospatial Data Management and Analysis - deriving insight to influence decisions
  • Mapping & cartographic experience
  • Ability to proactively influence broad range of internal and external stakeholders, articulating the business value of the services
  • Ability to understand and communicate with customers and align services to customer needs; interpret information, then clearly and concisely define/articulate business cases
  • Identification, acceptance and implementation of new technologies, techniques and practices
  • Excellent collaboration skills, sharing knowledge and experiences widely; adopting ideas of others, keeping abreast of new developments, recognizing technology gaps, knowing what competitors are doing
  • Has a learner mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Experience in the use of GIS software (Esri, Safe FME & Python is preferred)
