The Opportunity
Our work couldn’t be more important in contributing to the functioning of our nation’s parliamentary democracy. End User Computing services enables the UK Parliament to run smoothly and function efficiently. When you join us in this vital role you’ll be a key member of the high-profile Platforms team which delivers the shared digital services that are central to Parliament’s success.
With end-to-end accountability for the operational delivery and maintenance of a platform roadmap, you’ll focus on providing an excellent service while ensuring sustainable lifecycle management plans are in place. Managing the supplier contracts that provide secure end-user computing services to both Houses of Parliament, we’ll expect you to lead on strategic computing plans and decision making, and ensure operational plans and budgets are in place for the platforms you operate.
Leading a collaborative team of innovative specialists, you’ll work with senior stakeholders as you advise on live projects and act as liaison for any problems, issues or incidents that arise. And the approach you take to risk management will ensure that the balance of benefit to risk is both understood and appropriately managed. But your work won’t stop here, because you’ll also:
- lead the operational delivery of Parliament’s end-user computing platforms, work that will include operating closely with third party partners
- lead specialist teams in monitoring, operating and supporting secure end-user computing platforms
- lead on end-user computing strategy and roadmap discussions
- identify ways to continuously improve services and ensure that sustainable lifecycle plans are in place
- provide technical direction and advice to programmes and projects
- seek ways to exploit technology to address complex business, organisational and technical issues
- own the operational relationships with our key suppliers, ensuring services and products are aligned to industry best practice and contractual requirements
- implement robust resource, operational and BCDR plans, ensuring an effective and resilient approach for digital platforms
- ensure effective financial controls and planning processes are in place, and help to develop budgets and achieve best value
What You Need
If you’ve got technical knowledge of desktop computers, laptops, mobiles, tablets and their operating systems (including Windows, Mac OS, Android and IOS) and the ability to develop, manage and lead a committed, high-performing team, then we want to hear from you. You should also have:
- knowledge of mobile device management platforms such as Intune and Jamf and other end-user computing services such as electronic signage and voting devices
- the ability to deploy software agents, including anti-virus and SCCM, ensuring they are configured correctly and reporting back MI reliably
- the skills to develop posture checks and proactive security hardening measures for end-user devices
- the ability to set the technical direction and develop strategies which aim for continuous improvement of end-user computing services
- experience of building and maintaining a high performing and actively engaged team, while upholding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion
- experience of managing end-user computing platform lifecycles and the ability to respond to cyber security threats
- experience of owning relationships with third-party providers to deliver user-friendly and cyber secure solutions
- strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to translate business requirements and user needs into practical working solutions
- the skills to think creatively, ask the right questions, and critically evaluate and communicate your findings to a larger team
- the ability to lead investigative work into problems and opportunities in existing processes, and create recommendations for improvements
- the ability to make decisions at the appropriate time while considering the needs, priorities and constraints of the situation
- the ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK

End User Computing services is part of the wider Platforms team delivering shared digital services that are used by everyone who works in the UK Parliament. End User Computing is made up of a diverse group of ten highly skilled members with a can-do attitude to everything it does.
