This is a fantastic opportunity for Compliance Officer to work with an established Remote first Law Firm. The ideal candidate will have an interest in commercial litigation, mediation, and arbitration.

Role Specifications:
Role Title: Compliance Officer For Legal Practice (COLP/COFA)
Employment Type: Remote, Self-Employed via Service Contract – We're a remote team. We don’t mind where you are based as long as you get the job done beautifully.
Day Rate: £200 per day
Expected Hours: 4-5 days per month
Key Responsibilities:
As a COLP, you must take all reasonable steps to:
- ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of Serenity Law's authorization.
- ensure compliance by Serenity Law LLP and its managers, employees, or interest holders with the regulatory arrangements which apply to them (except any obligations imposed under the Accounts Rules).
- ensure that Serenity Law LLP managers and interest holders, and those they employ or contract with, do not cause or substantially contribute to a breach of the regulatory arrangements.
- ensure that a prompt report is made to SRA of any serious breach of the terms and conditions of your Serenity Law’s authorization or the regulatory arrangements which apply to the firm, managers, or employees.
As a COFA, you must take all reasonable steps to:
- ensure that Serenity Law LLP and its managers and employees comply with any obligations imposed upon them under the Accounts Rules.
- ensure that a prompt report is made to SRA of any serious breach of the Accounts Rules which apply to them.
Serenity Law LLP has an obligation to keep and maintain records to demonstrate compliance with its obligations to SRA (paragraph 2.2 of the Code of Conduct for Firms).
Therefore this role is expected to keep a record of all breaches that occur. These records are a key tool in understanding the risks in the business: It is a key responsibility to identify where things have gone wrong and whether there are any systemic problems inherent to Serenity Law’s processes. It is the role holder’s responsibility to agree with Serenity Law leadership on how best to maintain records within the firm's risk management strategy.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of Compliance experience.
- LLM Qualification.
- Must be authorized to carry on reserved legal activities by the SRA or another approved regulator.
- Comprehensive understanding of SRA rules & regulations.
- Strong understanding of how to create & maintain reporting & recording systems in line with SRA requirements.
- Ability to review & assess, providing gap analysis to improve efficiency & compliance.
- Experience in preparing reports for audits & assessments with very strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal & written.
