Fixed Term Contract - up to 3 Years. 36.5 hours per week (FTE:1.0).

The university is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Compliance Officer to join its team, working in key departments including Chemistry, Physics and Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that staff within those departments comply with relevant laws, regulations, and policies relating to equipment and systems, by developing and supporting compliance processes and data management.

The ideal candidate should possess high levels of computer literacy, in particular use of spreadsheets, databases, word-processing, email, project management software and web editing. In addition, you should have the ability to work effectively with a range of staff showing tact and resilience with excellent communication skills. Being educated to degree level, or relevant experience as well as a project management qualification are also essential to the role.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

To provide technical assurance across the full spectrum of research and teaching activities by managing the practical implementation of compliance with all relevant legislation in the laboratory environment.

To ensure good practice through the development of supporting documentation, and training and awareness programmes.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the statutory compliance activities through planning, developing, and implementing a range of compliance projects across various disciplines, e.g., hazard management systems, chemical inventories, and asset management databases, including all elements of asset management, and documentation within identified SEM Departments.

Contribute to excellent health and safety compliance, by ensuring that health and safety considerations are embedded in all research and teaching activities in a consistent way across relevant Departments.

Support the relevant Technical Services teams with the day to day (infrastructure) functions of the department and deputise for the Technical Services Managers on Compliance matters when requested.


The post holder will be responsible for providing technical assurance to the departments across the full spectrum of research and teaching activities by managing the practical implementation of all relevant legislation in the laboratory environment. This extends to compliance with statutory requirements for example for pressure systems (gas), local exhaust ventilation (LEVs- fume hoods), water hygiene and disposal of hazardous waste.
