Position Overview:
As a Manager, Customs & Compliance at Tim Hortons Canada, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the company's adherence to trade regulations, customs requirements, and compliance standards. You will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of trade operations, import/export activities, and trade compliance initiatives. Your expertise and proactive approach will help Tim Hortons maintain a seamless flow of goods while mitigating potential risks and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Responsibilities:
1. Trade Compliance Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant trade laws, regulations, and international trade agreements.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with trade regulations.
- Provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders on trade compliance matters.
- Proactively identify potential customs and trade compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
2. Customs Operations:
- Oversee the import and export processes, ensuring compliance with customs regulations. Particular focus on goods movement between US and Canada, but also including international goods movement (in&out of Canada).
- Manage customs clearance activities, including classification, valuation, and duty optimization.
- Collaborate with external customs brokers and freight forwarders to facilitate smooth clearance of goods.
- Monitor customs documentation and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Stay informed about changes in customs regulations and communicate updates to relevant teams.
3. Trade Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of import/export activities, including customs documentation, licenses, permits, and certificates.
- Ensure proper recordkeeping of trade-related information in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement document control procedures to streamline processes and ensure accessibility.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including supply chain, logistics, legal, finance, and procurement, to ensure seamless trade operations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, including Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), regulatory agencies, and customs officials.
- Collaborate with external partners, such as trade associations and industry groups, to stay updated on industry developments.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and projects to provide trade compliance expertise and support.
5. Risk Management:
- Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.
- Conduct risk assessments related to trade compliance and implement appropriate controls.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and implement improvements to enhance trade compliance measures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain management, customs, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in trade compliance, customs operations, or a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian trade regulations, customs requirements, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with international trade agreements and customs procedures.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) are desirable.
- Proficiency in trade compliance software and MS Office suite.
