Quality and Compliance Manager -Based at our Head Office, BH23 6HG.

Salary £28,000 to £35,000 dependant on experience. Pension with a 4% contribution, 25 days holiday increasing every year, 25% discount in our stores plus many more.

As Hobbycraft grows and develops its own branded strategy we have an exciting opportunity for a Quality Compliance Manager. This role is based at our Head Office in Christchurch, Dorset with international business travel required.

The QC Manager will work with buyers, the sourcing teams, our suppliers and their factories and supply chain to provide specialist advice on product development and testing requirements. The QC Manager will also have indirect responsibility for our suppliers’ QA/QC teams.

The QC Manager will report to Head of Global Sourcing and work cross functionally with particular focus on buying, supply chain, artwork, distribution centre, central operations, commercial data co-ordinators and stores.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) procedures, processes, and policies.
  • Report monthly and quarterly to the senior leadership team on the following:
  • Improve on a complaints process so that customer complaints are responded through Customer Services and CDC in a timely manner and that more serious issues are raised to the appropriate teams.
  • Improve controls of returned and quarantined products with relevant stakeholders.
  • Negotiation and management of contracts with key compliance partners
  • Manage budgets and forecast spend relating to quality and compliance topics.
  • Manage monthly invoice processing in accordance with company processes.
  • Maintain compliance to updated standards and prepare the business for incoming regulatory changes.
  • Support the Hobbycraft Own Brand sourcing team in New Product Development and labelling.
  • Support the Hobbycraft Own Brand artwork team with warnings and legal notices on products. Also, to advise on misleading product artwork through our product systems.
  • Design and trial continuous improvement initiatives with selected agents and 3rd parties.
  • Develop and support improvements in product legal and technical knowledge within the buying teams, and wider HC teams as appropriate.
  • Ensure Hobbycraft has a suitable due diligence system and appropriate ethical and environmental audits.
  • Ensure Hobbycraft is compliant with Post Brexit UK and EU product related legislation.
  • Work with agents and direct suppliers to deliver best practice documentation and compliance.
  • Work with Dorset Trading Standards to maximise our ‘Primary Authority Scheme’ membership.

About You


  • Recent graduate in a product design, chemical or manufacturing discipline
  • Relevant experience in either retail, manufacturing or importing.
  • Passionate about products, how they work and how they are manufactured.
  • Committed to quality and continuous improvement.
  • An eye for detail
  • Flexible attitude with a “hands on” approach
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Self -starter, ability to work well under pressure and unsupervised.
  • Good organisation & time management skills.
  • Must hold a valid UK Driving Licence
  • Able to travel internationally (this will be Business Class)
