As our Data Compliance Officer, you will be the first point of contact for expertise, advice, guidance, and practical support in the application of DMA Regulations and PECR compliance building strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation. Adopting the role of critical friend, you will provide subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and practical support to teams across Blue Cross to maintain our compliance in all aspects of; internal Blue Cross data quality standards, Direct Marketing Association code (DMA), Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and Gift Aid.
You will be the Data Compliance SME for the delivery of our Data Strategy, playing an active role in project teams and contributing to increased maturity in organisation culture in aspects of data protection and compliance.
You will champion opportunities for contact and permissions capture in the design and development of products and services within Blue Cross.
In addition, other responsibilities you will have:
- Working with internal teams to champion the effective capture and recording of Gift Aid declarations in line with HMRC requirements.
- Work with internal teams and third-party suppliers to ensure that data related activity is supported by the necessary controls to maintain compliance.
- Work with the Data Management team to ensure that the correct permission statement is stored with the collected data to evidence compliance.
- Working under the guidance of the DPO, with the support of the Data and Insights team, develop KPIs and reporting to monitor compliance and effectiveness of controls to identify areas for improvement. Provide regular updates to Data Board, DPO, and the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
- Under the guidance of the DPO and the Data Manager, the consistent application of approved permission statements to all external data capture activity and work with teams to drive through improvements and mitigate risks identified through your work and data compliance reporting.
- Raising awareness of available data compliance training and resources, highlighting areas where additional training may be required - specifically within teams responsible for outgoing communications and data capture.
- Sit on the Blue Cross Data Board as the Data Compliance SME.
- Keep up to date with any changes to the relevant data protection, fundraising and marketing laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Support the adherence of all Blue Cross data policies and processes.
About you
As a data compliance subject matter expert, you will have considerable knowledge of data regulation and compliance, with the ability to understand complex arguments and nuances in language. You will be able to deal with multiple issues and tasks simultaneously, maintaining a calm and considered approach at all times.
As a resilient, energetic, and positive person, with an analytical approach and first-class communication skills, you will be able to work under pressure and within deadlines.
You will enjoy working with people and be experienced in leading the practical application of regulation and legislation in a marketing, communications, fundraising and income generation context.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
In-depth working knowledge of Direct Marketing Association code (DMA) and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)
A good working knowledge of UK GDPR, experience in the practical application of UK GDPR principles and effective monitoring of compliance
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and calmly to non-experts.
Ability to work with diverse personalities and different perspectives to find common ground and influence positive outcomes.
Possess the confidence and integrity to highlight and escalate risks.
Possess strong attention to detail.
Ability to demonstrate, understanding and apply our Blue Cross values.
It would be great if you also had:
Practical experience of fundraising, marketing, and income generation
Demonstrable awareness of Gift Aid and the requirements for HMRC compliance
Experience of working in a not-for-profit environment
Familiar with the not for profit / charity sector and the nature of its data processing activities
Good working knowledge and understanding of risk management.
Experience of being part of a formal project team
