- Hybrid working with two days a week in either Ipswich or Great Wenham office.
Babergh and Mid-Suffolk District Councils are going through an exciting period of change, with the creation of a new Compliance Team within our Housing Directorate.
The Compliance Team will oversee the management and maintenance of the key compliance areas of gas, electrical, asbestos, fire, lifts and water hygiene as well as play a pivotal role in the management of damp and mould.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a Compliance Manager to join our new team, reporting directly to the Head of Investment and Compliance. To be successful, you will need to share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Investment and Compliance you will lead on the operational delivery of a high-performing asset compliance and Health and Safety service across housing and corporate assets that meets statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements.
To do so you will be responsible for a team of specialist staff in the delivery of mechanical works, electrical works, and compliance / Health and Safety activities (for example and not restricted to; heating, electrical, fire, asbestos, lifts, CDM, water hygiene).
You will contribute to the development, review, and implementation of all related strategies, policies and procedures, and management plans, including the preparation and monitoring of all related budgets. You will also provide specialist advice, support, and guidance on complex issues to other council services and to external customers and communities.
About you
You must hold an HND in Building Construction / Building Surveying or a related subject. You will possess a NEBOSH general certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or an IOSH Managing Safety Certificate. You will also be a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET or TMIET).
You will:
- Have detailed knowledge of statutory / regulatory requirements and best practice principles relating to Health and Safety, asset compliance and the M&E service area.
- Be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and experience in the general principles of building construction and regulations.
- Have significant experience of managing a Health and Safety, asset compliance and M&E service area within a highly regulated environment.
- Be required to make site visits in a large, rural area, so access to personal transport and a valid driving licence will be necessary.
