Companion/Personal Assistant 2112 Ancrum, Scotland
Job description
Companion/Personal Assistant – Jedburgh Area
A cheerful capable young man on the autistic spectrum living at home in Ancrum with his family is looking for a companion. We would prefer someone who has experience in working with individuals with autism but this is not essential. He is a happy person, physically able, does not take medication and has limited verbal skills which can be picked up over time. He has a weekly schedule which includes horse riding, swimming, running club, a craft session and daily visits to coffee shops while out during the day. He requires someone to keep him safe in all situations, with a car and clean driving licence (with the appropriate insurance) to take him to his daily appointments. We are looking for someone to work 4 weekdays 9am to 5pm (32 hours) or from 11am to 5pm (24 hours per week) on an hourly rate of £13-00 with mileage expenses and 5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata. Post subject to references and P.V.G. check.
Job Description
I am a 25 year old man who needs someone to take me in their car to my weekday appointments which I enjoy doing. I need someone who is a good communicator, with a positive outlook, proactive in looking for things for me to do and a non-smoker.
I have autism but I am a happy person who needs someone to keep me safe while we are out during the day. My speech is limited but enough to help me to function and I can move around without your help. I enjoy horse riding, swimming, running, cake, crafts and cooking. My current weekly schedule is:
Monday – riding near Kelso, swimming back in Jedburgh and the coffee shop at Jedburgh golf club.
Tuesday – riding near Kelso, visit to the coffee shop, home and then dropped at the running club in Galashiels.
Wednesday – a trip to McDonald’s in Galashiels and then an afternoon crafts session at Care to Create in Galashiels before returning home
Thursday – a trip to the shops, tennis in Kelso, coffee shop, riding for the disabled and then home
Friday – Swimming in Jedburgh a trip to the coffee shop and then home
My companion would be responsible for my weekly schedule so would need to fill any changes if something is cancelled and would hopefully be proactive in finding me new things to do. I love crafts and in the past enjoyed cooking however I have not done this for a while. My previous helper worked with me for 7 years since I left school.
Work shifts
I need someone to be working with me 4 of the days Monday to Friday between either 9am to 5pm or 11am to 5pm, the days to work would be flexible but fixed when agreed. Additional hours could be possible and weekends to give my parents a break would be nice but not essential.
Rate of pay
£13-00 per hour reviewed annually plus driving expenses and 5.6 weeks annual leave calculated on a pro-rata basis.
