Job description

We are looking to recruit 2 Nursery Nurse with excellent clinical skills and confidence to work in the Lambeth Perinatal Mental Health Team based at Wooden Spoon House, near Elephant and Castle, and the Lewisham Perinatal Mental Health Team based at Old Town Hall, Catford to provide care for women and families in the London Borough of Lambeth.

You will be familiar with Perinatal community standards, governance and performance structures and confident in partnership work with other agencies such as Children and Family Social Services, Midwifery and Obstetric teams, CMHTs, Health Visitors and the Voluntary sector.

You will display excellent knowledge and skilled practice in women with mental health disorders in the perinatal period. You need to have experience of working in a richly diverse inner city Borough and have the understanding of the opportunities challenges that this brings.

Working closely with your colleagues in PMHT’s, you will receive support and be part of the on-going Perinatal workforce training within SLaM and London wide.

  • To work as a member of the team delivering interventions which meet the needs of the baby for those mothers who are receiving community care. The nursery nurse will also promote and support the health of the mother and baby.
  • To provide an effective and supportive nursery nurse service to mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period, within a community setting.
  • To support the mother and the rest of the MDT in order to ensure that consistent and appropriate emotional and practical care of the baby is being given at all times. The nursery nurse will also monitor, document and report the developmental progress of the babies on the unit.
  • To work in partnership with the family and the wider community nursing teams e.g. Midwives, Health Visitors, Community Nurses and Community Nursery Nurses.
  • To promote the work within teams by delivering high quality, evidence based nursery nursing interventions.
About the team:
The Lambeth Perinatal Service and the Lewisham Perinatal service provides a Monday to Friday, 9-5 service to service users residing within the Borough of Lambeth and Southwark offering assessment, intervention and treatment to women who suffer from moderate to severe mental health disorders in the perinatal period.
  • To work with the mothers in order to provide specialist clinical interventions.
  • To ensure an assessment of the baby is conducted and documented upon every contact.
  • To ensure regular monitoring of physical health and developmental milestones of the babies are undertaken and reported back to the link health visitors as required.
  • To ensure that a Mother’s involvement in the care of her baby is fully promoted and that the mothers are consulted regarding all care given to their baby.
  • To provide written and verbal reports to the multi-disciplinary team relating to mothers care of and behaviour with her baby and any observed changes in the physical health of babies reporting any concerns immediately to the nurse in charge.
  • To communicate sensitive information to patients and/or relatives/carers concerning appropriate physical and/or psychological care and interactions with their baby. To attend meetings and represent nursery nursing as necessary and to feedback information from the team.
