The Role: What you’ll do
We are looking for two motivated and committed Healthcare Assistants (HCA) to work within our Basildon and Brentwood primary care service delivering physical healthcare checks for individuals who are on the Serious Mental Illness (SMI) register.
The HCA will work autonomously and as part of the primary care practice team carrying out a range of checks, including but not limited to smoking status, alcohol intake, sleep, diet, exercise, substance misuse, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol.
The role will involve providing wellbeing and health related advice and support to patients too as well as recording and submitting patient data on SystmOne. Previous experience of working in the community, delivering physical healthcare checks is desirable, however, full training and regular supervision will be provided.

- A warm, empathic and engaging approach to working with patients and colleagues
- An ability to approach work with enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- A NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care, or Certificate in Community Mental Health, or Associate Practitioner Training and/or HCA care certificate
- Experience of working with people who experience physical and/or mental health problems
- An appreciation of how mental health and physical health issues affect health and wellbeing
- Excellent communication skills
- IT skills - Microsoft Office/Patient record systems
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- A NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care, or Certificate in Community Mental Health, or Associate Practitioner Training and/or HCA care certificate
- Experience of working with people who experience mental and/or physical health problems
- Ability to travel in and around the Basildon and Brentwood area
- An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion
Desirable:
- Experience of working within a primary care/community setting as an HCA
- Experience of delivering physical healthcare checks
- Associate Practitioner Course
