The Opportunity
We are looking for someone to help tell our exciting story as we move forward. We need someone who understands how important bringing the future to life is, engaging our communities, using a diverse range of techniques and tools to reach everyone. Someone who can tackle the challenges, keep on the front foot of fast-moving change and tailor the approach to suit different audiences.
As a member of the Council’s corporate communications management team, you will develop and drive communication and marketing strategies, media campaigns and delivery plans to promote the vision for Rotherham and the services we provide for our residents.
Accountabilities
A senior role within the communications and marketing function, with line management responsibilities, this is a great opportunity to have an influence at a council that is continuing to build on strong foundations, whilst being both ambitious and aspirational for the borough.
You will be responsible for a portfolio of council services and will be involved across the whole mix of marketing and communications activities - this is a varied, interesting and challenging role for the right person.
As a communications lead for the organisation you will ensure the team maximises the benefits of digital communications to improve engagement with our audiences.
You will work to deliver an annual plan outlining the key campaigns and projects to support the Council’s priorities and provide cover within the communications team as required including deputising for the Head of Communications and Marketing.
The Experience You Will Bring
We need an experienced communications professional full of creative ideas, who is comfortable working in fast-paced environment and can keep a calm head while delivering a best-in-class communications service for this major local authority.
Ideally, you will have a communications, media relations and/or marketing background in a similar role. Experience of developing and delivering communication strategies including online, news, video and social media and digital campaigns is a must as is strong media handling skills.
To be successful in this role, you will have excellent interpersonal skills including relationship building, collaboration and be a knowledgeable sounding board for senior figures including Cabinet members. Be a self-starter with initiative and drive.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2024 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
