Job description

About the role

Reset is increasing its engagement with the public to grow the number of refugees who are welcomed to the UK by communities. While we know media and advocacy play a role in this, we think that digital engagement is the main way in which we’ll reach new audiences and persuade people to sponsor refugees. We have created a new role, Digital Marketing and Communications Manager, to help.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic communications professional to challenge us to do better, engage our target audience, and position us as the go-to body for community led refugee welcome. We are determined to speak out on refugee welcome to influence change and encourage more people to join the movement.

As Digital Marketing and Communications Manager, you will play a crucial role in this by developing and executing innovative marketing strategies focused on digital marketing, content marketing, and events. Managing a small team, you will be responsible for building our brand, enhancing our online presence, and creating impactful marketing campaigns that drives awareness of Reset and Community Sponsorship programmes.

You’ll line manage two people who head up our media, campaigns, and policy work, working with them and others in the team, you will promote ways in which friends and neighbours can welcome refugees. You will work closely with counterparts across the resettlement sector to make sure we use our knowledge to influence government policy and our voice to amplify support for the act of welcoming refugees. As we often work remotely, our teammates need to liaise effectively with each other to support public engagement and programme delivery, so we’re looking for someone who can build relationships at a distance.

As a senior leader in a small charity, this role is both hands-on and strategic. As well as leading a small but impressive team, you will be part of the SMT which is focused on growing the organisation to meet the needs of people who want to welcome refugees through sponsorship.

We know this is a big role, so won’t expect you to be an expert in all communications disciplines – most crucially we want to see expertise in driving digital change and engagement, ability to get the most from a small communications team, and the ability to work pro-actively and collaboratively.

About Reset

Reset empowers volunteers to welcome refugees into communities across the UK. We were set up in 2018 to coordinate the growth of the Community Sponsorship movement across the UK and have since embraced other forms of community-led welcome.

We ask each member of our team to:

  • Take part in pre-arranged quarterly team meetings, normally alternating between London/south each and Manchester/north west, which may require overnight stays
  • Meet in-person with all members of their team at regular intervals
  • Meet the people they line manage in-person at regular intervals
  • Be available for in-person meetings with stakeholders where this is beneficial to Reset’s work

Diversity and inclusion

Reset has a strong commitment to tackling inequality. We positively welcome applications from all parts of the community and with diverse cultural backgrounds, and particularly from people with lived experience of having refugee status or supporting refugees.

We recognise that candidates from underprivileged backgrounds are less likely to attend university and gain significant work experience. We encourage candidates who match a majority of the requirements (but not all) or who partly meet the requirements (but not fully) to still consider applying for the role. If you would like to arrange an informal conversation about your suitability for the role, please contact us.

We will ask all shortlisted candidates to complete an equality monitoring form. Please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help ensure the application process works for you.
