Communications Coordinator

14 Month Contract (Mat Leave)

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications Department is responsible for the communications of all Quinte Conservation’s programs, projects, and departments, including Source Water Protection. The incumbent of this position plans, develops, and implements communications, public relations, and marketing initiatives for Quinte Conservation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creating, prioritizing, organizing, and implementing communications projects for not only the department, but also for the organization.
  • Coordinating with staff and outside people/organizations to address project needs/requirements. i.e., prioritizing information for advertisers to meet print and airtime deadlines for promotional purposes. Scheduling/booking venues for open houses and public events and arrange and coordinate interviews with the media.
  • Preparing and delivering communications on behalf of the organization through media release distribution, social media, newsletters, and updates to the website. In addition, maintaining good relationships with media members and cultivating new contact opportunities.
  • Manage Quinte Conservation’s website as part of overall media and public relations strategy.
  • Maintaining relationships with the public and friends of groups through strong customer service, engagement, and supporting relatable community initiatives and projects.
  • Responsible for managing and contributing to the communications resource library i.e., photos, videos, and information as well as maintaining print materials and ordering and re-stocking business cards and other related items.
  • Responsible for maintaining and ordering field clothing and swag materials.
  • Editing and writing documents, reports, letters etc.
  • Creation of graphic and visual design for posters, images, PowerPoint, social media, brochures, informational signs, etc.
  • Computer and software aid i.e., editing a PDF, sending/sharing/finding/ items on the server.
  • Prioritizing sudden and additional heavy workloads to meet short/sudden deadlines.
  • Acting as the liaison between staff, the community, media, and advertisers.
  • Facilitate large scale projects like website re-design, annual reporting, community events and fundraising efforts. (When there is a project of this nature, the approx. time spent increases significantly.)
  • Required to have skills and knowledge in a variety of different programs and software to make adjustments when needed to deliver a project/program.
  • Ability to comprehend new and (potentially quickly) changing information into public friendly messaging.
  • Providing supervision and support to Communications Assistant, interns, volunteers, co-ops, and other persons delegated to communications department. (This only applies when there is an individual(s) filling one of the above roles.)

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS

  • College level diploma in Communications or public relations.
  • 5 years of relative work experience and resource management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software programs for word processing, Internet use, desktop publishing, graphic design, and website maintenance (programs include Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Canva, iCreate, and Adobe programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier Pro, and Illustrator).
  • Knowledge in social and new media.
  • Experience and knowledge in project management/facilitation, website management, and social media content management and strategy.
  • Working knowledge of relevant government regulations and legislation.
  • Strong understanding of Quinte Conservation’s programs, services, and of technical environmental operations at a level to be able to speak or to write about them with obvious knowledge.
  • Verbal and written communication skills at a level of requirement that cannot tolerate ambiguity; written communication must be precise, correct, and in a professional style; verbal communication must be delivered in simple but easily understood language.
  • Strong grammar skills for writing and editing Quinte Conservation publications.
  • Written communication skills required for professional correspondence with marketing and advertising agencies.
  • Written communication skills for professional correspondence and media releases.
  • Knowledge of advertising and its impact on marketing programs and effectiveness of image promotion.
  • Analytical ability and knowledge to market and promote Quinte Conservation.
  • Organizational ability to arrange and coordinate special media events, special events, fundraising events, meetings, and photo opportunities.
  • Creative ability to design displays, to create graphics, to take photographs and to develop text for community events, publications, brochures, pamphlets, and corporate identity items.
  • Competence in developing networking relationships with media, government officials, and potential funding contacts.
  • Political astuteness and public media savvy.
  • Public speaking skills at a level to make community presentations, to facilitate public meetings and to promote Quinte Conservation at community service associations and on community committees and appear or be quoted in the media (print, radio, TV).
  • Supervisory ability required to recruit, select, train, and supervise contract and summer staff.
  • Creativity to develop new programs and initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of human behavior and motivational techniques.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license.

JOB DETAILS

This job is located at Quinte Conservation’s office in Belleville. The annual salary range is $65,500 to $76,690 annually, 35 hours per week. This position qualifies for group benefits, vacation, and OMERS pension. The start date for this position is as soon as possible.
