Conservation Communications Coordinator
Ducks Unlimited has an opening for a full-time Conservation Communications Coordinator located at DU’s National Headquarters in Memphis, Tenn. The successful applicant will join a highly skilled and proactive communications team responsible for promoting our wetlands and waterfowl conservation mission across North America.
Ducks Unlimited has protected or restored more than 16 million acres of wetlands and grasslands, which benefits wildlife and communities in all 50 states. Our successful candidate is as passionate about communications as they are improving critical habitat.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a creative and talented communicator to write engaging stories on digital platforms, printed publications and for media relations.
Duties:
- Produce articles for website on conservation projects, scientific achievements, donor profiles and other topics.
- Produce articles for DU publications (Ducks Unlimited Magazine, Wetlands America magazine, annual reports, science updates, etc).
- Work with social media manager to create engaging content.
- Proofread articles for digital and print.
- Prepare and deliver media pitches pertaining to conservation projects, major donor/corporate relations, policy efforts and events-based fundraising.
- Coordinate production of digital and printed materials to support events, proposals and legislative activities.
- Break down complex biology/engineering projects into strategic messaging for diverse audiences.
- Regularly update all regional and state web pages on ducks.org.
Preferred qualifications:
Ideal candidate will have:
- At least three years’ experience in public relations or communications.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
- Experience with content strategy or public relations campaign development/management is preferred.
- Examples of writing and other work.
Skills:
- Proficient in writing/editing/proofreading.
- Website maintenance through a content management system.
- Preferred experience in media relations.
Reporting and Location: This position reports to the Communications Director. The position will be located at DU National Headquarters in Memphis, TN. Candidates must be willing to work hours outside the typical workday and workweek throughout the year. Some overnight travel is required.
Salary and Benefits Package: The target salary is $65,000 annually. We work hard to encourage everyone at Ducks Unlimited to bring their authentic selves to work every day.
