Communications Manager

Full time, Permanent (ask us about flexible working).

37 hours per week

£39,576 per annum rising to £40,025 in January 2024

Job Description

If you are great with both words and people; if you can build positive relationships with

journalists and stakeholders, and you can use social media to get us noticed - then this could

be the perfect job for you.

We are looking for someone who is excited by exploring creative and new ways to tell our
story including video, influencing and maybe even podcasts - as well as being equally at
home with the more traditional methods of communication.

Building on your communication experience, you will be an excellent copywriter, you will
have a nose for a story, an eye for detail and the confidence to own communication plans
and run with ideas. We are looking for an experienced comms and media expert, who is
passionate about the power of telling stories to deliver positive change. If you have a

communications objectives:

  • Raise the profile of ClwydAlyn as the best housing association in North Wales.

Key Activities

You will:

  • Support the development and lead on the delivery of an external communication

strategy to increase coverage and awareness of the work we do with media and our

external stakeholders.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with press and key stakeholders;
proactively maintaining media and stakeholder distribution lists.
  • Proactively manage media engagement, mitigating reputational risks through crisis
comms planning.
  • Monitor journalist and key stakeholder interactions on social media, commenting and
initiating conversations on the topics that we care about.
  • Provide regular progress and evaluation reports which enable future improvements.
  • Manage and coach our Communications Coordinator and have oversight of our
internal communications plan.
  • Work with the team to ensure our work is recognised through prestigious awards.
  • Produce high quality communications to be shared both internally and externally,
including written and video.
  • Be responsible for the daily news on our channels, finding stories and ensuring there

is a daily drumbeat of news available across all channels.

  • Attend events where required for the purposes of creating and publishing stories

across ClwydAlyn channels.

  • Act as an advocate for our comms guidelines and encourage colleagues and

contributors to use the guidelines.

  • Oversee the monitoring of social media sites, responding to messages, and where

necessary working with colleagues to agree an appropriate response.

  • Lead on the delivery of our Welsh language plan.
  • Develop our approach to ensuring our communications are accessible.
  • Any other reasonable duty associated with the role.
Experience and qualifications required:
  • At least 3 years PR and communications experience at a mid/senior level.
  • Skilled networker who can spot media opportunities and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Proven experience identifying issues of reputational risk and leading crisis
management processes with senior executives.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Ability to build relationships and work closely and effectively with other team
members in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Experience of developing and managing PR campaigns and evidence of coverage
achieved in press and on social.
  • Experience of creating video content is desirable.
  • Experience of creating accessible communications is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.
