Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
The Communications Coordinator assists with the flow of communications and information between AIA New York and the Center for Architecture and the public. They publicize the organizations’ exhibitions, programs, and initiatives and stay in touch with AIA New York members and friends. Their main duties include supporting the communications within both organizations, helping to represent the organization at media events, and managing public relations on behalf of both entities.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Press and Media Relations:
- Create press kits to support exhibitions, conferences, and a variety of programming as needed
- Develop and maintain a list of reporters who cover the built environment
- Write and disseminate press releases, as necessary
- Respond to and field media inquiries across departments
- Support media partnerships, especially for the Archtober Festival
Email:
- Build and schedule newsletters using Salesforce Marketing Cloud
- Proof and review content for newsletters
- Maintain best practices across email communications
Web site:
- Gather and produce content for news items
- Research/select, size, and insert photos
- Oversee the posting of “Elsewhere” events on the online calendar
- Copyedit AIANY and CFA events on the online calendar, ensure best practices
- Support quarterly Chapter publication, Oculus Magazine, by working with an editorial committee and staff and producing magazine content on aiany.org
- Assist in approving publish requests across AIANY, CFA, and AIANY Committee web sites
Social Media:
- Create and schedule posts for LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
- Create video content for social and bolster the organizations’ presence across platforms
- Engage with tagged posts and respond to comments and direct messages across platforms, primarily using Sprout Social Inbox
Other Materials:
- Support the production of printed brochures and calendars
- Help to draft and edit scripts for major events
- Support photo shoots and help organize photo archive
Qualifications for Communications Coordinator:
- 2+ years experience in a communications or marketing role
- Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; willingness to collaborate across departments as a team player
- Familiar with MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint and capable of creating visually compelling presentations
- Knowledge of email marketing software such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud or a similar program
- Proficiency and interest in social media channels such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and understanding of scheduling tools such as Sprout Social
- Familiarity with web CMS such as Wordpress or Webflow
- Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices
- Interest in architecture and the built environment is preferred
- Familiarity with Photoshop and basic photo editing is a plus

- Work to be conducted primarily in office, however some work may be conducted remotely via technology.
- Some lifting (up to 30 lbs.). Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
