Communications Officer - Institute for Sustainability

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about sustainability and marketing/communications. Looking after the Institute's website, newsletters and social media channels, the post holder will have lots of creative opportunities to shape the look and feel of our new Institute and its emerging communication channels.
We are keen to speak to candidates with strong communication skills. You will be an effective collaborator, networker, relationship builder and have experience in photography and videography content production. You will be experienced in using content generation tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Suite inc. Photoshop) to create ‘thumb-stopping’ content that resonates and triggers engagement among our audiences.
The key duty is to support the Institute for Sustainability promote research excellence, education and innovation in sustainability. The creation of a pan-university Institute for Sustainability demonstrates the University of Surrey’s commitment to be at the forefront of interdisciplinary sustainability research.
You will create engaging content plans, and tailor communication plans for our different global audiences (Scientists, Corporates, Students, Governments etc).
The role remit includes social media channels, along with independently filming, streaming or photographing new and engaging content, and then further editing and publishing to social channels, including graphics and animations.
The successful candidate will play a key part in maintaining and growing the University's brand reputation, hence we are seeking a team player who will quickly build a network of effective relationships across the University, including with senior colleagues and the Students’ Union, in order to inform and update the communication plans and deliver clear messaging across a complex communication landscape.
You will also be expected to proactively plan content in advance as well as respond to ad hoc opportunities, and manage relationships with a growing pool of social media ambassadors and coordinate content production.
This is a full time position, however part-time and job share can be considered with a minimum of 2.5 days per week. Please indicate when applying what would be your preferred work pattern.
This is a fixed term contract, currently available for up to 16 months.
