Communications Specialist

Reports To

Managing Director

Purpose

Supports industry communications and awareness campaigns for the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) by executing and monitoring communications, with a focus on news updates, email newsletters, website content, and social media content

Working predominantly with the Destination Development Department, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for enhancing the messaging and awareness around TOTA’s sustainability programs. This is a term position ending March 31st, 2024, with a possibility for extension.

Key Functions and Responsibilities

  • Work with TOTA team and external contractors to implement the Thompson Okanagan Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) awareness campaign
  • Create a Biosphere communications plan & schedule
  • Implement the Biosphere communications plan and schedule
  • Implement the Destination Development communications schedule
  • Create and publish written content to communicate the above stated deliverables to the Thompson Okanagan tourism industry in accordance with the corporate communications strategy, plan, and brand style guide, including:
  • Industry newsletter
  • Press releases and announcements
  • Email communications
  • Social media posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • Presentations, slide decks, and graphics
  • Build out content toolkits, webinars and other educational materials
  • Work with internal communications team to perform other marketing duties where required

Education

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Marketing and/or Communications
  • Tourism or sustainability experience is considered an asset

Key Performance Indicators

  • Meet all deadlines with accuracy and minimal editing
  • Accurate time management tracking and reporting
  • Flexibility with work tasks
  • Regular updates on progress

Job Requirements

  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills
  • Copywriting, graphic design, and website design
  • Google Workspace software (Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office software
  • Creating reports and presenting information
  • Quick learner of software programs
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Able to work under pressure within tight timelines
  • Strong attention to detail and task completion
  • Self-motivated and positive attitude
  • Able to work under pressure within tight timelines
  • Comfortable working remotely and in an office setting

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months

Salary: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year

Flexible Language Requirement:

  • French not required

  • Monday to Friday
