About the Opportunity
Summary and Responsibilities:
As part of the Marketing and Communications team in the College of Engineering and reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications in the Dean’s Office, the Sr. Marketing Writer/Communications Associate develops a wide variety of written communications for internal and external audiences that inform, persuade, and promote across multiple platforms. Audiences may include students, faculty, staff, prospective students, alumni, donors, executives, influencers, and external partners, among others. Drawing upon their marketing communications and journalism background, the Sr. Marketing Writer/Communications Associate will gather information by interviewing subject matter experts as well as through secondary research, and write communications while infusing college and university messaging and using marketing knowledge to position content partnering with subject matter experts to best tell the story, communicate information, and market the College and its offerings. The Sr. Marketing Writer/Communications Associate will write communications and marketing pieces, including but not limited to, correspondence, scripts, presentations, videos, collateral, web content, postcards, success stories, news articles, media pitches, degree offerings, direct marketing emails, advertisements, social media, brochure content, remarks, newsletters, and magazine stories. The position will translate technical content and concepts into communications that are understandable by general audiences. They will also incorporate feedback as part of review processes. Communications will be written for different mediums, including but not limited to print, web, digital, audio and video. The position will provide content direction for select video productions and take and direct photos for content projects. Occasionally the position will need to conduct interviews in the evening remotely to accommodate international time zones. The Sr. Marketing Writer/Communications Associate will also edit and proofread communications. The position will use tools such as Mailchimp for emails and e-newsletters, Wordpress for website news articles and content updates, social media channels to publish content, and MS Office, including MS Word. Knowledge of PhotoShop and InDesign is a plus. This position is eligible for a hybrid alternative work arrangement of three days remote, two days in the office.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree is required in communications, marketing, journalism or related field along with five years of business writing experience across a variety of communications and mediums, preferably within a marketing communications department or related, and/or within a high technology organization or in higher education. Ability to translate technical content and concepts into communications that are understandable by general audiences. Solid understanding of written English and grammar is also required as is strong attention to detail, verbal communication, professional demeanor, marketing judgement, collaboration skills, and experience working in a team. The position requires experience with MS Word and comfort using other technology platforms such as MailChimp, TEAMS video/audio conferencing, Wordpress or similar, as well as social media channels. Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign is a plus. Candidates must be able to provide a portfolio of writing samples.
