Douglas County, KS is accepting applications for the Emergency 911 Communications Officer I. This is a 3-month pool (June 3, 2023- September 3, 2023), entry level position for multiple career-oriented individuals.
The Emergency Communication Center (ECC) operates 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Essential functions of the job include: gathering, evaluating, prioritizing, and documenting information; processing calls, including dispatching calls to the appropriate agencies; maintaining/monitoring radio communications with Police, Fire, and EMS personnel; upholding confidentiality of information received; utilizing a multi-screen computer system, two-way radio, phone system, headset, and foot pedals while receiving/processing phone calls. Basic requirements include a high school diploma, G.E.D., and valid driver's license. Must pass mandatory background investigation, drug screen and hearing screening. Will be required to comply with shift work, 12-hour shifts on days or nights, with rotating days and weekends off. Holidays and weekends are required, as is overtime. The center currently functions with a Panama schedule, for 24/7 shift coverage.
