Stadler Rail Service UK Limited (SRS UK) is a subsidiary of Stadler Rail, Switzerland. Stadler is establishing a reputation as a competitive provider of train maintenance services and has seen a number of successes since emerging in the UK in 2016.
In the next few years over 200 new Stadler trains will be joining the UK rail network. Our current depot locations are Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle and Norwich offering a wide scope of opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in the UK Rail Industry.
We are looking to recruit a Commissioning Warranty Support Technician join the Commissioning team at our Glasgow Depot. Reporting to the TSSSA Site Manager. The successful candidate will be part of a team providing detailed Test and Commissioning support to Stadler project teams during the introduction of the new fleet for the Glasgow Subway.
Please note that this role is offered on a 2 year, fixed term basis. There will be a requirement to work shifts including nights and weekends.
COMMISSIONING WARRANTY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
YOUR TASKS
Essential:
- Undertake commissioning activities, functional testing from testing of the wiring (continuity test, insulation and voltage tests) through to the static and dynamic commissioning of complete rail vehicles.
- Undertake fault finding utilising software tools to identify the root cause and associated repair required of the electronic, electrical and electromechanical components (doors, air conditioning systems, traction equipment, passenger information systems, train protection systems, vehicle control technology, etc.).
- Responsible for the complete logging of the resulting test and measurement results.
- Preparing and accompanying test drives/runs on our own site or on the public rail network at our customer's site to gain approval of the design requirements and/or rail vehicle.
- Operational support, troubleshooting and implementation of warranty work at our customer's sites to ensure high availability of the rail vehicles.
- Undertake and provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces.
- Undertake software uploads and updates to all applicable sub-systems following due process and procedures ensuring configuration and control is maintained at all times.
- Answer technical questions from colleagues and handle practical questions asked by the Client.
- Provide assistance and technical feedback in support of any technical incidents.
- Provide mentoring and support for other members of the production team and promote knowledge transfer.
- Risk identification within own scope of works, assessment, provision of options to mitigate or resolve taking into account compliance with relevant legislation.
- Produce high quality reports in relation to all test and commissioning and other defects, both at system and component level, both in the business Maintenance Management System (SRMS or other) and general report writing, being either technical, non-technical or production related.
- Inform, negotiate and persuade their manager(s) and fellow colleagues to lead and support the development and implementation of improved systems and ways of working across the business.
- Observe all the rules and regulations related to health and safety practices, including a tidy workplace and disposing of substances with a high environmental impact.
- The post holder determines the best possible order of tasks to be performed in consultation with the (Shift) Production Manager, as well as how to work with the equipment available and the work instructions / maintenance list, based on knowledge and experience.
- Perform work in accordance with work instructions and Safety Procedures whilst contributing to create and / or update these instructions as required.
- Monitor unit/train performance and become involved in escalated repeat failures, to ensure prompt diagnosis and rectification is achieved. providing feedback on lessons learnt to the central team.
- Identify and enable effective cross team organisation working relationships.
- Undertake and support any activity that capabilities permit.

YOUR PROFILE
Essential:
- Served a recognised apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds/ BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias and NVQ Level 3 or to a proven similar standard.
- Extensive professional engineering, testing and commissioning experience in (preferably in rolling stock) maintenance.
- Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault finding techniques and the interaction between these, conducting and leading complex root cause investigations and reading electrical / mechanical schematics competently
- Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace from a production perspective.
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
- Be able to pass and maintain all competencies required for the role.
- Willingness for medium assignments in Switzerland.
- Must demonstrate commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and ensure the depth of their specialist knowledge is maintained.
- Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality.
- Ability to work as part of a team, going above and beyond where required.
- Willingness to support and guide colleagues.
- Base understanding of cost implications.
- Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, self-improvement, system & process improvements, operational excellence and end user experience
- Good level of IT skill including Microsoft packages.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of German language would be beneficial

This role is offered with the following terms and benefits:
- Salary: £38,000 increasing to £41,000 upon achievement of role competencies
- 40 hour working week, Sunday - Saturday. Night and weekend working required.
