Job description
Rochester Independent College is seeking to appoint a College Receptionist to be the welcoming face at the College visitor entrance, meeting and greeting visitors, coordinating their visit and liaising with College staff from across the school during term time. To support and participate in the administration behind the running of the college with general whole school administrative responsibilities as required. To maintain a good general knowledge of the college's systems in order to carry out duties effectively. To manage and organise work of a confidential nature with considerable tact, diplomacy and a high level of commitment, customer care and flexibility.
Hours: 8.30am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday (including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break) term time only. Some work at weekends and in the evenings may be required to help with College events.
Salary: Actual £17,089 - £18,923 (Pro rata of £21,675 - £24,000 FTE)
Responsibilities (this list is not exhaustive):
- Be committed to the safeguarding and promoting of students' welfare
- Read and adhere to the policies of the college as expressed, for instance, in its handbook with regard to induction, health and safety, staff conduct, equality and child protection and have a good understanding of the National Minimum Standards for Boarding
- Present a professional welcoming service, greeting all visitors
- Keeping the visitor reception area, office and meeting rooms tidy and presentable
- Preparing refreshments for visitors and cleaning and washing up after their visit as needed
- Receiving and dealing with enquiries from staff, parents and agents both over the telephone and in person and screening incoming telephone calls, answering queries where possible and redirecting appropriately
- Dealing with student and staff queries
- Touring visitors around the college as required
- Maintaining college wide office systems
- Maintaining the college calendar
- Work within the admissions, marketing and administration teams and supporting them as required
- Any other administrative duties as required
Personal Specification:
- Previous school reception/administration experience desirable
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Knowledge of a schools information management system, for example ISAMS or SIMS or ORAH, desirable
- Have excellent computer skills and be proficient in the use of Google Suite or Microsoft Office
- Have a flexible approach to their work with regard to both duties and hours
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of managing social media accounts desirable

Rochester Independent College was founded as a sixth form college in 1984 and offers a fresh alternative to traditional independent education. There is no uniform and students and teachers are on first name terms. Today, Rochester Independent College (RIC) has 360 students from the age of 11 and offers places for 130 boarders from the age of 14.
Classes are small. On average there are 8 students in each group. As well as a full secondary education from year 7 to sixth form, the College specialises in intensive one year A level and GCSE courses. We also have a good track record of excellent results on retake A level and GCSE courses for students aiming at competitive university courses including Medicine, Law, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.
