Job description
Reporting to the Digital Heritage and Operations Manager, you will deliver user-centred services in the Special Collections and Archives reading room and related virtual reading rooms.
You will answer collection enquiries, support users to identify items for consultation, facilitate and invigilate research, teaching and group visits. You will support the development of processes to continuously improve the user experience. You will support archivists, librarians and curators to make collections discoverable and usable, including documentation, housekeeping and conservation projects, and undertake collection imaging using the digitisation studio. You will participate in public engagement activities, generate usage statistics and contribute to evaluation activities. You will liaise with marketing colleagues to ensure webpages and promotional literature are up to date.
You will have a minimum of 3 GCSE (or equivalent qualification) at grade C or above, including English Language.
Responsibilities:
Ensure excellent customer service and support users and colleagues in accessing heritage services
Contribute to the development and delivery of physical and virtual reading room services for individuals and groups
Provide collection imaging services and support colleagues to improve information about collections
Utilise appropriate systems and technology to support the work of the wider team
Safeguard the collections, acting as key and alarm code holder as required; invigilating and guiding researchers on safe handling of collections
Contribute to successful accreditations for Museums and Archives and related continuous improvement initiatives
