Job description
The China Oxford Institute (COI), at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist our researchers with the day-to-day operations supporting the COI laboratories.
You will be responsible for allocated stages of a scientific process e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, microscopy and standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques including cDNA purification and cloning, and protein production. You will process samples and record results in a clear and organised fashion, noting any discrepancies and proposing refinements where necessary. You will support and implement procedures aiming to reduce the environmental impact of the research carried at COI; for example, flask and tube upcycling, sorting and recycling of used consumables. As part of your role supporting the COI Laboratories, you will collate results and communicate them to the appropriate members of the team.
It is essential that you are educated to GCSE in English, Maths and Science or equivalent qualification with proven experience as a research technician or student in academic or industrial biochemical laboratories. You will have an adaptable approach to work and a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks, and you will have excellent organisational skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, together with an ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with a wide range of staff at all levels. It is essential that you are familiar with good laboratory practices and safety requirements with knowledge of health and safety regulations.
