Coffee Shop Barista & Front of House Job Description
This job description is intended as a guideline; tasks may vary according to the requirements of the
customers and managing directors.
1. Job title – Barista & Front of House Staff.
2. Reports to – Coffee Shop Leader/Directors.
3. Job purpose:
- Making coffee (barista duties).
- Selling coffee, cakes and snacks.
- Support the coffee shop Leader/Directors in the day to day running of the coffee shop, for instance: preparing/serving coffee, operating the till and credit card machine, cleaning behind the counter and customer areas (including toilets).
- Support the coffee shop Leader to create and maintain an ambience and environment in accordance with the vision of the managing directors.
- Ensure the front of house task list is completed each day.
4. Health and safety:
- Comply with the coffee shop allergen guidelines.
- Abide by the coffee shop Health and Safety Risk Assessment.
- Record any workplace accidents.
- Notify the coffee shop Leader/Directors of any ‘near miss’ incidents.
5. Hygiene:
- Ensure the coffee shop customer area is maintained to a very high level of cleanliness and hygiene (including toilets).
- Abide by the coffee shop HACCP plan.
- Notify the coffee shop Leader/Directors of any hygiene related incidents.
6. Maintenance:
- Report any machine or building problems to the coffee shop Leader/Directors.
7. Follow company cash handling procedures.
- Be able to cash up the till and follow The Woods cash handling procedures.
8. Other general specific duties for area of work:
Front of house
- Throughout each day tables much be kept tidy from used plates, cups, cutlery and litter.
- Tables must also be sprayed with disinfectant and wiped regularly between customers.
- Seats must be swept with the dust pan brush and kept free from crumbs and debris.
- All plastic foliage should be sprayed with Febreze fabric freshener to keep it clean and smelling fresh.
- Cake display is wiped and dried each day to remove smears and keep them clean.
- Sink is kept tidy and clean to appear clutter free and be able to use easily.
- Fridge is kept organised, cleaned and restocked throughout the day.
- All under counter storage is organised clean and tidy.
- Coffee machine is polished throughout the day and properly cleaned each evening.
Toilet and hallway
- Hallway is kept clear of trollies and/or any obstacles.
- Dirty washing up is taken from the trolly to the kitchen and clean washing is brought back each time you are passing.
- Baby change, door handles, hand dryer, taps, flush and assistance handles are wiped down to remove bacteria regularly.
- Mirror is polished, sink is washed, bin is emptied and toilet is cleaned down daily.
Coffee Shop Barista & Front of House Person Specification
Customer related – the ideal Barista & Front of House staff will be friendly and understand the importance of customer service and hospitality. They will be willing to go out of their way to help customers.
Drive – confident and able to use their own initiative to maintain customer satisfaction. Willing to learn, flexible and adaptable and go that extra mile.
Qualifications – Barista training is essential. No formal qualifications required though the assistance must be numerate and confident in using standard retail equipment, for instance tills and card processing machines.
Experience – experience of working in a coffee shop or other customer facing role is preferred but not essential.
