Role: Cobol Programmer / Cobol Developer

Location: Hybrid and Remote Options (London Based Team)

Type: Contract Roles Available - Inside IR 35 Only

All employees here at Amber Labs MUST be able to pass Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).

Developer (COBOL / C#)

About The Opportunity: We are currently looking for a team of Cobol Software Developers / Programmers (COBOL / C#)

You'll provide an end-to-end service for creating and maintaining IT products based upon the COBOL & CA GEN toolset (formally known as COOL:Gen). Bringing all delivery capabilities together, consolidated under one management team, allows us to maximise the use of our skills, knowledge, and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working as a Cobol Developer in the UNIX environment using IDElocal PC, not via Mainframes
  • Oracle Database backend on Unix and Oracle SQL
  • COBOL Developer will be responsible for contributing in all phases of the development lifecycle developing and or modifying COBOL programs while providing expertise from concept and design to testing
  • Understand the requirements based on the business analysis document to handle development enhancement and maintenance activities of various applications
  • To Code and test
  • To provide system testing support to Business Analysts
  • Support, maintenance and enhancement of existing self-developed systems including bug fixes.
  • When working in teams play an active part in all activities relevant to your role including taking part in, and on occasion leading, the design process including capturing user stories and story mapping.
  • Contribute to the development and review of effective software development processes and standards.
  • Considers both functional and non-functional aspects of the required solution. Consider maintaining and improving data integrity to have paramount importance.
  • Ensure that development considers and contributes to the delivery of software which is capable of being easily tested, implemented, supported and enhanced.
  • Demonstrate effective use of the appropriate internal change control systems and maintain high standards of documentation of all aspects of development in accordance with the relevant processes and standards.
  • Contribute to the selection, configuration and usage of tools appropriate to the development methodologies used.
  • Apply design principles in accordance with defined processes and standards including where relevant object oriented design.
  • Utilise the appropriate source code control systems in accordance with the defined processes and standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in C# .NET development to a professional standard. For COBOL developers with little or no C# experience training will be provided.
