Reports to: Director of Student Life
Job Status: Part-Time Exempt
Position Summary: The part-time cheer coach is a nine-month position reporting to the Director of Student life, and is responsible for helping to engage HCU students in school spirit and traditions through the coaching, mentoring/discipling, and management of the HCU Cheer Team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Developing, planning, implementing and supervising of the University Cheer Program
- Recruiting, supervising, and mentoring/discipling cheer team members
- Organize, manage and facilitate cheer tryouts and cheer practices
- Develop and train cheer members (cheers, chants, dances, tumbling, stunting, conditioning, etc.)
- Coach and supervise cheer performances at athletic competitions and special engagements and appearances
- Initiate and coordinate annual fund-raising activities to supplement cheer team budget
- Adhere to all NCAA Cheer guidelines and protocols for performances and game appearances
- Partner with the HCU Athletics department for game day spirit support, promotional appearances, and potential away game support
- Partner with the Department of Student Life for promotional, orientation, and other special events
- Attend all cheer practices, games, and identified special appearances
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree preferred
- University and/or competitive cheer experience
- Two to three years cheer coach experience preferred
- Cheer instructor certification (UCA, NCA, or comparable) *Can be obtained after hire
- AACCA safety certification *Can be obtained after hire
- First-Aid/Athletic training experience preferred
- Organized – able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills
- Be available also for night and weekend games and appearances
- Work to further the university’s vision as stated in the “Ten Core Convictions.”
- Exhibit an active Christian faith
