Job description
DMDL provides ESSA Title I supplementary instructional services to private schools located in District 299 attendance areas. These services include direct instruction, tutoring, academic coaching, and fine arts programming. DMDL is seeking to hire Academic Coaches to provide 'in person' academic support in these schools.
Academic Coaching
The DMDL coaching initiative is a partnership with a focus on the process of learning. Students are assisted in the examination of their learning styles, habits of working, and current difficulties or barriers to success in reading and math achievement. In addition, career exploration is included along with referral assistance when necessary. The goal of academic coaching is to heighten awareness of what it takes to achieve academic success and anchor this with new strategies, a supportive relationship, and personal accountability. Participants engage in creative processes that foster engagement.
The coach will provide 'in person' services at assigned schools in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures. The Title I team, including Academic Coaches and classroom teachers, are aligned and focus on assisting students in achieving academic success. This position requires at least a master's degree in the field of counseling or social work. State certifications are a plus, but not required. Classroom experience is helpful.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes effective strategies which empower students to enhance academic achievement
- Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Title I team which includes the Title I Instructor(s), classroom teacher, parents, school administration, DMDL management, and CPS staff
- Engage in weekly documentation of student changes, with weekly case notes for individual students
- Assist students in evaluating their own strengths and challenges, determining academic goals, and developing a plan to identify skills necessary to achieve their academic goals
- Conduct small group or individual Academic Coaching sessions with students
- Utilizing identified learning styles to determine strengths and areas for growth in students
- Create a student service plan for each student
- Provide feedback to school personnel and parents
- Serve as a resource to parents and school personnel in locating services within the community to help meet the needs of individual students or families
