About the role
This post is part of a package of support in relation to the acclaimed and diverse Cardiovascular Imaging Group led by NIHR Research Professor and Biomedical Research Centre Cardiovascular Lead, Prof Gerry McCann. The postholder will be supervised by Dr Ranjit Arnold, Dr Sandeep Hothi and Professor McCann.
The role is based at Glenfield Hospital and work in state-of-the-art NIHR clinical research facilities including a dedicated 3T CMR research scanner (BHF funded Siemens Vida installed in 2021) and a recently built Translational Medicine Facility for clinical research to support translational studies in cardiovascular MRI (CMR). The primary project is to develop and evaluate a novel method for the detection of coronary artery disease using cardiac MRI. Other complementary strands of the research programme include evaluating diagnostic accuracy in relation to alternative imaging modalities, as part of the CONCORD research study.
The Research Fellow will be involved in all aspects of the CONCORD study and work with Dr Arnold and his team to deliver portfolio of studies in imaging and contribute to the writing of other manuscripts and grants.
It is anticipated that the work undertaken will contribute to MD, with conversion to PhD with responsibility for patient recruitment in conjunction with research nurse(s), supervision of the stress CMR examination with radiographers, data acquisition and the analysis of all CMR data and entry of data into the validated database (REDcap), plus a comprehensive literature search on the role of non-invasive imaging in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The postholder will write first draft of papers pertaining to the accuracy of the novel imaging protocol and its component elements and provide occasional lectures and small group teaching for students/ junior doctors. The post holder will attend two CMR sessions on a weekly basis for training in CMR techniques and data analysis, reducing to one weekly session over time.
About you
Required skills are MB BS or equivalent, full GMC registration and licence to practice, possession of MRCP or equivalent, sound knowledge of cardiac imaging, IT skills, previous clinical training and experience in cardiology or diabetes/endocrinology at ST3 level or above and awareness of Good Clinical Practice. The role would be suited to a current NTN in Cardiology or a Cardiology trainee wishing to subspecialise in cardiac imaging. Previous research experience e.g. intercalated BSc with evidence of outputs, academic potential as evidenced by undergraduate performance, basic statistical knowledge and understanding and experience of writing scientific papers is desirable.
