Applications are invited for a part-time 0.2 or 0.3 FTE 1.5-year clinical research fellow position with Dr Clayton Hickey and Prof Jennifer Cook in the Centre for Human Brain Health (CHBH), School of Psychology at the University of Birmingham, UK (https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/centre-for-human-brain-health/index.aspx).

We are looking for a GMC registered (CT/ST4-6 post membership) individual to assist with psychopharmacology research being conducted at the Centre for Human Brain Health, University of Birmingham, in the laboratories of Dr Clayton Hickey and Prof Jennifer Cook. The young, healthy participants in these studies will take low-risk, well-established prescription drugs (e.g. haloperidol) and the effects of these drugs will be examined using computerised cognitive tasks and neuroimaging. The post-holder will conduct health assessments from interview and electrocardiogram results before prescribing the drug for research use. In addition, the successful candidate would need to be present in the CHBH for a full day per week to oversee and provide medical cover for the research. We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.

The responsibilities of the role are flexible; the post-holder can choose to engage with research data collection and analysis to any degree. At one extreme, the post-holder may engage fully with the research, leading to eventual research co-authorship. At the other extreme, the post-holder might engage very little beyond screening and provision of medical cover, and engage with other clinical or research responsibilities during paid work hours.

We are keen to discuss this possibility with interested individuals and are flexible with respect to the way in which this position is filled.

  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme against timelines and deliverables.
  • Able to organise own workload and the ability to use initiative in working situations.
  • Experience of working in a team and work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, flexible and approachable
  • Knowledge of current GDPR requirements and ability to manage sensitive situations
