Job description
The Jenner Institute at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow. You will take an active role in the design, development and execution of clinical trials investigating vaccines against tuberculosis, assessing the safety, immunogenicity and in vitro efficacy of promising candidate vaccines, and SARS-CoV-2 and BCG challenge studies, including assessing the immune response to infection and produce working challenge models for future use in vaccine research.
You will play an active role in the design and execution of clinical trials of tuberculosis vaccines in Oxford, and you will plan, direct and undertake clinical delivery of research work in both tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 studies. You will be responsible for screening and vaccinating volunteers according to the protocol, and you will work closely with the clinical trials team including project managers, nurses, recruitment coordinator and data manager in the design and conduct of clinical trials.
It is essential that you hold a medical degree or equivalent, and are also GMC registered; you must be currently qualified and licensed to practice medicine in the UK. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be comfortable and confident interacting with volunteers and patients in a research study, clinical research co-ordinators, team members, laboratory and administrative staff, monitors, collaborating company representatives, MHRA auditors and the broader research community. You will be willing to cover clinics on an on-call rota basis. The role requires flexibility in the hours worked, as some out of hours work is required but this can be taken back as time off in lieu. Previous laboratory experience relevant to tuberculosis, infectious disease, or SARS-CoV-2 research would be desirable, but not essential.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by NIH and the Wellcome Trust.
