Job description

Acting as a patient/participant advocate at all times, the post holder will provide clinical research and administrative assistance to several research studies taking place within the department.

The post holder will be expected to support the identification of participants into antenatal and postnatal studies, as well as recruit participants from family members of patients undergoing relevant medical care provide administrative support to the research team and ensure that research records are accurate and up to date.

The post holder will be required to verbally explain and outline research projects and gain permission for research participation. The post holder will also undertake venepuncture and work within the department laboratories.

The post holder will also provide essential administrative support to
the Women’s Health team and ensure that research records are accurate and up to date.

The post holder will ensure the well-being of participants by adhering to research protocols and local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

A vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Research Assistant in Reproductive Health & Childbirth, within the Department of Women & Children's Health, King's Health Partners, based at St Thomas' Hospital London.

The post holder will be involved in the day to day workings of several clinical trials, will be involved in the recruitment of patients into clinical research studies, obtaining informed consent of participants and work within the laboratories.

The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills. Previous experience in health care and laboratory work would be advantageous, but not essential.

South London Comprehensive Local Research Network
The NIHR Comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN) was established by the Department of Health to improve the speed, quality, and integration of clinical research, resulting in improved patient care. It is managed by the NIHR Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre. The NIHR CCRN comprises 25 local research networks (CLRNs) in England, each including primary care, secondary care, tertiary care and mental health NHS service providers.

The role of the CLRNs is to establish and maintain an excellent NHS infrastructure for clinical research and research management. This infrastructure includes clinical research support staff and sessional support for clinical investigators of all professions, funding for other NHS Support Costs such as additional clinical services and diagnostic tests, and research management and governance systems and staff.

4.2 Clerical and administrative duties

  • Be responsible for timely data entry and accountable for its accuracy.
  • Provide and maintain accurate monthly screening and recruitment records for study databases according to study protocol.
  • Assist in the setting up of each study by creating and maintaining efficient administrative systems.
  • Assist the research team in handling, analysing and resolving data queries promptly, and to direct unresolved queries to the appropriate team member.
  • Assist the team in ensuring that all study documentation is completed, maintained and updated regularly. This may include the updating information and documents in investigator site files.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring own knowledge of amendments and updates to studies you work on.
  • Provide timely information and reports to reflect recruitment of patients in line with team processes, this may include entry of recruitment data to EDGE.
  • Organise travel and other appropriate expenses for study participants.
4.3 Education & Professional Development

  • Under the direction of trained staff, maintain and develop own skills.
  • Act in accordance with Health Education England (HEE) Care Certificate framework standards at all times.
  • Undertake an Individual Performance Review annually with your Line Manager.
  • Maintain a record to reflect any training carried out pertaining to the post.
4.4 Other responsibilities

  • Assist the other members of the multi-disciplinary research team as required with all aspects of administration related to research studies.
  • To assist with all aspects of the study as required within the limits of your competency.
  • Ensure own actions help to maintain quality.
  • To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across R&D, NIHR BRC and wider GSTFT to facilitate the achievement of objectives and shared learning.
  • The post holder will be expected to support the local laboratory
